In Pursuit of Love

in #philosophy5 years ago (edited)

I have learned, through both personal experience and the experience shared by others, that the biggest obstacle that contributes to the struggle and imprisonment of ideas in oneself and a selfish outlook towards the world, is the inability to tear down the walls in our minds and hearts or navigate around the constant obstacles placed before us by a world that prefers we keep to ourselves in regards to anything deep, worthwhile, and meaningful. Instead, we are shepherded towards a bare and loveless existence of brief interactions and meaningless conversations. We are left with a life of vain existence and an illusory love that seems miles long, but a terrifyingly lonely and empty existence, in reality. This idea makes me wonder, of the plasticity of the idea of love and whether it is worth pursuit.

The idea of love has evolved over time. I will admit that I could never fully grasp what love meant to those of previous eras. It does seem, however, that it has transformed from the purity and uniqueness of God's love for Man, to the vengeful and retaliatory of human will in the Trojan War, to what we have today, which seems like at best, a transitory and fleeting connection of undoubtedly interrupted and non-rhythmic momentary memories. We must now share our love for another, with our careers, chores and errands, and electronic strangers from our constantly pinging devices.

I understand the subjectivity of love and I also understand that it is more of an ideal, and it is difficult to obtain fully in reality. When considering these caveats, it makes me wonder whether love is worth pursuing present day or is it simply a fool's errand.
