The inevitable and personal risk models
There is risk in everything we do and, in everything that happens to us. It is a feature or bug of change. Lately, I have been part of a few real-world discussions that have talked about risk taking, regrets for and against taking them and other associated issues that arrive through life. Is it better to take risks or, play it safe?
Safe is of course a relative term but in nearly all the discussions I have had recently, the people who have played it safe wished they had been more risk taking and, those who risked more heavily, were glad they did. The risk takers didn't all benefit from the risks in fact, some of them paid a heavy toll indeed but, they felt that they are glad they gave whatever endeavor they attempted, a chance.
The thing with the non-risk takers is that they likely over-value the risks that they didn't take and overestimate their chances of being successful. What they are regretting is an illusion because they are looking back in hindsight with a lot more information and saying, "I could have done that". They are right, they could have but, they could have failed and paid a price higher than they are willing to pay also. There is a lot of uncertainty.
This is life, uncertainty. We live via a set of predictor mechanisms that try to find a line through possibility to get us to where we think we want to go. We also have to factor in what we don't know and what we don't know is going to arrive to change circumstances. What some people see as a risky move, others see as a sure thing because of differences in the calibration of their predictive models. What some see as a safe opportunity can be a very risky one for another because of what they must give up to take it.
The only time perhaps when risks are not risks is when one has absolutely nothing to lose, a point where even the potential for death isn't a factor, because nothing is left to risk. This is likely why some people are more risk seeking than others because even if they have what some would consider a lot to lose, they may not be attached to those same things. This means that they can give them up or lose them without feeling the cost.
For many people, they look at the cost to taking risks as the loss of what one has and in general, the more one has, the more protective one becomes of it as they attach themselves more completely. Others, the more they have the more comfortable they feel in taking larger risks as they believe they have a safety net, a fallback position. At the end of the day though, no matter if trying to play it safe or take risks, there are always risks involved and from the discussions I have had recently, those who played it safe tend to struggle just as much (if not more) than those who played with uncertainty.
One thing to remember though is that when judging another's move as risky or not, it is how you see risk, not them.

U know my take on risk taking?
Anyways I am a person who loves nothing but peace of mind. Despite the fact that life throws shit at you when u least expect and trouble comes even in your comfort zone, I always prefer to play it safe. With that , I have less Thi gs to worry about and just go with the flow.
I am also a risk taker but I orefer doing that only when I have no other option, when I have been pushed to the wall or when it seems like I have nothing to loose by doing so. But is any risk really cost free? Well still yet to figure that out.
Once tool a risk that made me start feeding from hand to mouth. Threw all my money into Ponzi in a gradual and steady process and boom, lost everything. Thanks to steemit which saved my life.
People often talk about taking calculated risks, but really @tarazkp, is there anything like a calculated risk? I think every risk we take is left to chance and fate to decide.
What do you think?
Ever thought that it is because you don't calculate risks well that you end up in these positions?
For example;
You have mentioned this a few times over the month and you knew it was a Ponzi. That is a pretty silly risk unless you can afford what you are going to most likely lose.
Absolutely there is and generally those who are experienced risk takers calculate better than those who are not.
I know this might be coming late and you might not get to see it but if you don't, I might have to take it to any of your recent posts.
If we have something like a calculated risk, why then is it calls a risk? Being calculated means that you already know the outcome and you went into it because you know it's going to be favouarble.
Had to look up the definition of the word risk. They said that risk is a possible , usually negative outcome of an event. So with this, can we still say that there is anything like a calculated risk?
There is always risk but the calculation is about probability of the risk happening. If you bet heads instead of tails, there is a 50% chance you will lose. That is a calculation. If you jump off a high rise building pretty sure you are going to fly, there is a near 100% chance you are wrong. The calculation doesn't take away the risk, it allows for a more informed decision.
taking risk is something that is different for everyone indeed. I personally like a long shot most of the time. I have worked hard for my money and have put some aside but sometimes one should take a gamble. But you have to feel comfortable with it, not someone else and do not let others dictate what you should do, that creates FOMO or FUD
and those are ticks in the pics right?? why? hate those things
Stink bug.

ok, so, not a tick but still a pest, lol
did you take those pics in your neck of the woods? then its really becoming a worldwide pest
Yeah, outside the building. I remember we had a tree in our front yard in australia that tended to collect them too. We would climb the tree and occasionally crush one... They don't smell great.
Brown marmorated stink bug
The brown marmorated stink bug (Halyomorpha halys) is an insect in the family Pentatomidae that is native to China, Japan, the Korean peninsula, and Taiwan. It was accidentally introduced into the United States, with the first specimen being collected in September 1998. The brown marmorated stink bug is an agricultural pest and by 2010–11 had become a season-long pest in U.S. orchards. It has recently established itself in Europe and South America.
Agree with the first part.
No. I don't know what they are called but not a tick. These are about 1.5 cm long.
Hi Taraz. I am not a gambler but if I see something having value and an opportunity for serious growth i will back it. It's a bit like Bitcoin now, why would you invest in it if it is going to just double when you can find an Altcoin that has the possibilities of what Eutherium did.
I think this is a risk issue also as people are assuming that BTC doubling is a safer bet than finding the coins that will do what ethereum did. But, who can really say?
I suppose it's an individual thing. I know one guy for whom avoiding risk is practically a religion. He takes such pride in every risk avoided, in every doubtful career path averted, in every puddle not stepped in, and to be honest, he seems happy on this path.
Of course, his kids aren't so happy when he jumps down their throats for the slightest risky behavior (otherwise known as playing outside, or whatnot lol).
But still, he seems happy. And the conversation he most enjoys is the one where he advises others to avoid risks, and tells tales of the failures who took them: the actors who don't get acting work, the novelists who don't get published, etc.
He makes a convincing case. But he also makes life sound like one dull slog to the grave. :)
No risk no game , you have no any work riskly no success in your life . Bitcoin work is same .
Thanks for sharing @tarazkp

Risk Risk Risk and too much Risk..... I am a risk taker and convert the chance in to success many times. Good see that you clicked good pics of bug with Risk!! I hope it didn't bite you ;-)
I am not sure wheter I am a risk taker or the one who play safe but my thoughts are...
If I don't give it a try, will I regret it later? And if I did make the decission to go on... I will make sure that myself are confidence and won't regret my action.

Saludos
