Propheting from the Blockchain

in #philosophy7 years ago (edited)

Are prophets dead? Well, technically yes but are they dead in the future too?

The great lies all have a seed of truth at their core. A seed that sprouted and as each leaf unfurled, a new layer of exaggeration was added. What started off as a fishing story with a hand estimate being a little wider than the reality of the fish, soon turns into landing Moby Dick.

That is a singular story but a collective story can grow out of proportion very fast as it gets passed along the informational chains of custody. Each ear can hear and interpret something quite different depending on investment and incentives for particular outcomes. The mouth then passes an incentivised retelling onto the next ear where misinterpretations and misrepresentations again take place.

Each person at each step likely feels they understand the information and are passing it along with adequate fidelity. Their paraphrasing and embellishments were to improve the information, not warp it. It was what was meant anyway. Some may purposely skew information to meet their own needs. In time, this can get well and truly out of hand.

In my opinion, no telling of a story, even first-hand experienced, is accurate. They are always coloured by the position, experience and motivations of the speaker and the fidelity of the information that led to the speaker.

Now, when it comes to the books that have been written about the prophets claiming words by the gods, how much has been embellished or manipulated based upon the motivations and incentives of those that wrote it, those that told the stories, those that may have even spoken with the prophet directly? We can never know, we must take it at face value and interpret, misinterpret or discard the best we can.

I was writing another article before this but instead chose to combine parts of it so will segue into the idea of that now. The article was on the bible. More specifically, if Jesus was to come to earth at this moment and read it, what would he think.

On a scale of one to ten with ten being completely, how much is in line with his actual actions and words spoken. How accurate were the words of witnesses, how trustworthy the writing of the educated scribes, how good the translation from Aramaic?

There are many points of contact where there is room for error, administration, amplification and curation. And, there was no way at the time to verify any of the information other than trust in the speaker, and the speaker was not Jesus himself, but an extremely long succession of mouths whispering to ears.

If we look at the latest US elections as a reference and the fake news stories that circulated and even after being proven false from multiple sources, many still choose to believe. What happened 2000 years ago?

But, this article isn't about questioning the bible or the act of Jesus, Buddha, Moses, Mohammad or any other prophet, it is about any future prophet. Can there ever be another?

Even though currently fake news is still possible, the blockchain offers potential solutions to informational infidelity. It could take out all embellishment, all exaggeration, all unverifiable points and replace it with what would be considered, decentralized fact.

With this level of informational trust and so many nodes writing it, faking an event as large as the words of Gods will be near impossible. There will be verified video, audio and whatever new technologies will write to the blocks for eternity. Every act performed, every word spoken and potential miracle will be in front of the world stage for all to witness and recorded and verified across multiple sources. Word of mouth is finished.

So, going back to Jesus having a read of his biography. Assuming he remembers back 2000 odd years, how much would he discard as misrepresentation, exaggeration or outright lie?

If he then rewrites it in his true own words (Gods) and strips all false information, what is left? Is it still a tome of hard to decipher fine print or has it been vastly reduced into an absolutely clear, manageable and unmistakable pamphlet? What of the miracles, the actions and all of the things that make him standout of the crowd as the King of men? Does it still look impressive enough to go to war over or is it straightforward, practical and logical enough that anyone would say, 'yeah, fair enough'?

When another prophet arrives or returns, what are they going to need to do to get the support required to be believed by the masses considering there will likely be no avenue for embellishment and the entire mass can be introduced to the teachings immediately in high-fidelity ultra high definition?

Will there be another prophet? If there is, it is likely the one that successfully unifies humanity.

If there is another, they will be the first to have essentially direct access to every person simultaneously and have all of their words, actions and miracles recorded by multiple sources and verified by a decentralized and trusted system. Blockchain prophet would be virtually undeniable.

If there was ever a time for a verified messenger of god to unite humanity, it would be around about now, right?

Imagine if the new prophet started their run at Steemit. Just think what their AMA sessions would look like... and their follower count. Would they be the King of Whales? A curation trail? Would they adjust their upvote to maximise profit or reward? Would they troll accounts and downvote liars and sinners?

Perhaps Steem would hit the sun and we would rejoice and use it all to help those in need.

Who knows...

Well said!
I very much agree with what you have said here. It is bold yet safe. It is bold because it is confronting mass hysteria (bible/religion) yet it is doing it with simple logic and not really saying anything besides there is no way the bible could actually be accurate. This does not mean jesus didn't or doesn't exist nor that god doesn't exist simply that based on pure logic and millennia of example the accuracy is impossible.
So this leaves us with what is truly important. Observing, experimenting and taking responsibility for our lives. To figure out what works and what doesn't.
I will give you a follow to hopefully see more thought provoking content!

Thanks. I wrote the other day that I will try getting a little more controversial but not sure how far I will push yet. I am quite aware of the permanency of words here and don't aim to annoy to much. I do like to question things though, so let's see where it ends up. I post across a range of topics though so not all will be such as this.

Thanks for the support and talking the time to comment and follow. It is very appreciated and even more so as at the moment, is very hard to gain interest in the long-form content. Strange considering it is a long-form concept ;)

hahahahaha yes I feel you.
It is good to be cutting edge, to even push the limit, but it must be done in the right way. Questioning and challenging is great but to offend or put off is not so great if you want up votes and followings.
In order to get up votes and followings you have to post what people want to and or enjoy reading.
I personally like controversial and am disgusted by mainstream "normalcy" so it also just depends on your market.
That is why so many good writers advise FOCUS ON A NIECHE. Appeal to that nieche consistently and u will have your success.
Sometimes branching in to many directions actually looses "followers".
As with all of life choices make or break what we do. You will find your way.
SteemON!

I read this post a while back and quite liked it. I had made a note to feature it in one of my Quinns Quality Content Curation" posts and just now got around to featuring it.
I know its belated but this post is valuable none the less and hope to bring you some more attention.
Keep up the good work.
Best Regards~*~

Better late than never and the thought is appreciated :)

Yes I will follow you and keep an eye out for another gem I can promote!
Thanks

Great post, and a lot to think about. Just wondering if you have heard of or read any Neville Goddard? I love his take on the meaning of the bible and of Jesus and God - and specifically how this relates to our modern day lives and the power of our words and thoughts. :)

I can check him out but I am actually an atheist or at least, my take on what a god would look like if reality, doesn't fit in with religious views. I am open to explore things though as there is value everywhere.

Cool, yes I guessed you are not a conventionally religious person from your writing - neither am I. :) I used to be dead set against any kind of religion...

However, after a) psychedelic experiences in my 20s and b) having children and losing my father I have been delving into my own person version of 'god', 'spirituality' and you know, the meaning of life!

The reason I suggested Neville Goddard is because he talks about the bible, Jesus and god - that whole lot - not as a religion, but as a metaphor for our inner experiences of the world, and life within each individual. It really is fascinating.

So yes, if you do get around to checking him out, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Best wishes, @johleen

I am a pretty open person so will look into it when I have a chance.
At the moment, I could do with a psychedelic experience. :)

Awesome, well I hope you get the chance to experience what you need to! :)

The AMA series will be awesome.

I can imagine there would be many, many questions concerning life's negatives.

Master Taraz,
You have opened a crack into a seriously complex topic. The word prophet has many meanings. Like your example of whispering ear to ear, any story changes in the telling. Truth and understanding are blown through the caverns of our mind. Even if you try to grasp, they always partially escape. Even now, I struggle to know.
Try to formulate a specific question.
Try not to forget to breathe. It is easy to get lost in that tiny crack!

I just wanted to have a peek.
There are so many interesting topics that are wound in complexity. I question if they are complex at all once unwound or is it a trick played to raise the barriers to maintain control.

The complexity for me has always ended in an unknowable. Begin again. Over and over. Slowly establishing what you believe to be a firm truth, but leaving with a glimpse of faith.

I am not afraid of the unknowable but living according to unnecessary complexity is likely to lead to unnecessary failures. I carry too much faith not enough truth.
