There are many jump-off points in life. Those moments where there is no obvious right decision and there is just step from the ledge or away from the edge. What is it that makes us fear stepping into the unknown, seeing what else life has to offer? Is it what is out in the darkness, or losing what we have in the light?

There have been several of these points in my life where I have been faced with an edge between what is known and unknown and have at times let fear hold me in place and other times, stepped into the ether.

It isn't that change is always good and it has cost me dearly in many ways but, it is always a learning experience and even finding out that I should have stayed on the ledge is more than I knew by staying there. Staying on the ledge, remaining in the safe zone raises more questions than stepping as there is always the 'what if I had stepped?' problem and once the moment has passed, there is no answer possible.

Questions open mental loops and the brain desperately works towards resolution and when none is possible, it starts to justify and create an illusion of what would have been in the darkness if fear had been overcome. But it is an illusion only and can never know what would have been, pure speculation to either justify or admonish the fear.

Stepping out expands the pool of answers and inevitably, raises many more questions as each bit of knowledge learned gives a mind more tools to better ask the darkness what it hides within its folds. Not all answers are satisfactory, not all answers lead to success but, they do lead to the next question.

The step off the ledge is one onto an unknown path of an unknown distance and length. It could be a dead end or a winding, twisting and branching trail that forks ever more into the shadows. To walk in the darkness creates monsters too terrible to ever lay eyes on, tricks of the mind to say, 'turn back, this is not for you'.

Every adventurer has heard those words rattle in their skull, but who's voice is it? A guiding spirit, or fear grasping at straws? Heed the voice or walk forward with caution, the choice is always up to the individual.

Whatever lays in wait in the dark, whether it be eternity or oblivion, don't you want to know?

The photo is of an unknown insect on the petal of a sunflower. The story I see is the contemplation between ledge or unknown.

Without so much surprise I find you haven't got comments yet on this post. This is actually a very unique and rare situation. And since my crappy internet connection is usually the main reason that I've never been able to be the first commenter in one of your highly enlightened and thought provoking posts... I'm gonna split this comment in two parts just to not lose this chance of gain me a good satisfaction. The substance next. }:)

Ok, having said that, here we go. :)

In my opinion, the only formula of foolproof ingredients to mess with to overcome the uncertainty and know ¿exactly? if and when just step from the ledge or away from the edge. Is, curiously, to have previously cultivated a lifetime healthy attention to absolutely everything surrounding you. Have developed a patient wise observation to dissect and scrutinize every detail of all of that to truly ponder its real values. And maintain an everlasting intrepid but always cautious sense of curiosity about everything and all. And of course, also a good long term memory where to store all that stuff. LoL ;)

But, exercise a curiosity with which if you have been able to handle it masterfully with extreme Conscience and Logic first to make the necessary math involved to solve the riddles beforehand. Only and exclusively through the right dosage of Conscience and Logic sprinkled all over the Curiosity equation. With that couple of spices solely, you could transform curiosity into insightful Intuition, EXPERIENCE and eventually even a good deal of Clairvoyance too.

Yeah! I reckon not everyone is a good math chef or willing to become in one. There are many out there who do not even like to get their hands dirty. Nor to get them to fix their own car themselves or cooking. Much less mess up their brains with trying to simply think with common sense and true consciousness.

Definitely The Ego and attachments to anything material are the greatest impediments to obtain such a degree of intuition and clairvoyance. Only obtainable by cooking with the spices of Logic & Conscience on this kitchen room we call life. The eventual and potential perceived sense of loss of mainly our current material possessions in this earthly life is what usually prevents us from becoming a terrific Master Chef. Which basically deny us the skills to anticipate the taste of every intangible dish which lives in our minds. With just cooking with Logic & Consciousness there is no need to accommodate any speculation or justify or admonish any fear of the possible outcomes.

What is it that makes us fear stepping into the unknown, seeing what else life has to offer? Is it what is out in the darkness, or losing what we have in the light?

Ah! that surely is the main reason about why there are so many out there repeatedly wondering: ¿what if I had stepped? still embraced to their teddy bears. :)

Soak it in :)
