Mysteries of the Mind

Humans being curious creation as they are, seem to have explored and revealed a lot of secrets of the universe. Curiosity mixed with courage, made them venture the peaks of the highest mountains and the depths of the deepest caves
Where they cannot go, they send machines and robots to probe and scour the ocean beds or going far beyond the solar system.
But have the humans revealed it all? Do they know all the secrets? Humanity is still baffled by the biggest mystery of all; the human mind.
Although in the recent years, science has been able to understand the functions of the physical brain more than before but the more is learned about it, more mysterious it becomes. Findings concerning the human brain point to much more than its physical structure which is beyond our capabilities to measure, weigh or count even.
Some of the most debatable mysteries of the mind are:

Consciousness:
Researchers are still vague about where the brain ends and mind begins are they even the same thing? This also brings up the subject of the souls. Humans have a strong belief on souls and base on the goodness or evilness of a person on soul.
At the same time what triggers the unique thoughts and feelings which make our personality making us who we are? No exact answer has been found yet. What is the connection between a conscious action that we are doing ourselves like driving a car and an unconscious one like breathing?

Laughter:
Laughter is the least understood of the human behaviors while one might laugh his head off at a joke and the other wouldn’t even find it funny. It is still not clear what exactly makes a human laugh and enjoy as senses of humor differ. We know laughter stress and makes us feel good but it happens unconsciously we don’t necessarily produce it just happens.
Laughter is not related to humor as it is connected to relationships and bonds. It is bit of a glue that holds the relationships together as it reduces depression.
We know what it does but little is known about the mechanisms responsible for it but it is caused by a number of sensations and thoughts. But a puzzling question still remains how one may find something funny and one doesn’t.

Memories:
Another fact that still hasn’t been answered by the scientists is the forming of memories. How they are formed, retrieved and how they just vanish? Some research has been done via brain imaging techniques to unravel the mechanisms which account for creation and storage of memories.
Memories are of various types like cooking your mother’s favorite pasta or solving a really difficult chemistry equation but how the brain decides which of the memories are to be saved? And often why aren’t we able to retrieve that information when we need it badly (especially during exams!)
Scientists were able to pinpoint where they were stored what is the actual process is yet to be revealed. Nor the way how a certain memory is wiped out when you want to forget it.
Brains have been known to create false memories too and people tend to believe it as real memories. How does that happen?
What goes inside this gray mass between our ears, will take years of study to be able to completely unravel its secrets.
