Knowing Yourself~ A Snook Ramble

in #philosophy6 years ago

Every once and awhile it is a good idea just to smack yourself in the head and follow your own words of advice.

The Sims 4 just came out with a new Stuff Pack built around tiny houses. I love building small homes. They don't take a ton of time and I don't get bored before they are done. I was very excited for this pack to come out. Stuff packs are also the cheapest packs you can buy for your Sims 4 game. All in all, I could not see a negative side to the newest game release...

Two months before this the Sims 4 came out with the University expansion pack. I was also very excited about this expansion pack. I had made my Sim and was ready to get some fun gameplay in. This never happened. Life, stuff, and things happened instead. With two new packs from a game, I love to play, sitting on my computer doing nothing I started to build a new tiny house.

The new tiny lot type comes in three tiers. The first tier is building a house using only 32 tiles. To put this in perspective a bed takes up six tiles. A bathroom takes up five tiles. In the new Tiny Living stuff pack, they did give you things like a Murphy bed to help you save space. It can be your sofa during the day and bed at night. You can also die from your bed if it malfunctions. Anyway...

The great benefit of having the smallest house is all the extra game perks your Sim gets. They learn faster. Let me rephrase that. They learn new skills at a ridiculously fast rate. It almost feels like cheating how fast they learn new skills.

So what is the problem? You have a Sim learning new skills faster than ever. You are finally playing the University expansion pack and have new cool items to build with. How can there be something wrong with this scenario?

Hmmm......

Well...

I didn't like the houses I was making. They bugged me. I didn't know what it was about them that bugged me but building them didn't make me smile. Building things always makes me smile. Yet I built two micro tiny homes. While they were okay looking and functional they didn't make me smile.

This made me start a third micro tiny home. I needed a smile. Badly. The Sims 4 always makes me smile, until this week.

Over the last few weeks, I have been stuck in bed more than normal. To combat going crazy I have been watching a lot of Sims 4 building videos. One of the Challenges going around was to build a 32 tile micro tiny house for a married couple with one child for only 12,000 simoleons and you could not use any cheats.

I saw some beautiful tiny builds. The Sims building community is very talented. Very! I made a 'Starter Home' for my new Sim. My house looked boring and empty. Not a great way to start playing a game but I didn't want to cheat and give my Sim more money.

The next day instead of picking up where I left off, I started building another micro tiny house. In two days I finally finished that house and started on a third tiny house which I already knew I didn't like. Until...

I stopped trying to make a starter home. I started not caring if I had to cheat in my game to use the house. I started building using colors, patterns that made me happy looking at. The minute I changed my thinking the tiny house started to come to life.

Building the house started to make me smile. It made me write this post so I would remember to always be me. The Sims is a game. Games are there to make you relax and happy. If you are not hurting anyone by playing a game by your own rules why stop? You are only hurting yourself.

We all are great at certain things. Be true to yourself and what you are great at will make you happy. If it doesn't, look closer at yourself. You and only you can make yourself happy. You and only you can leave your personal touch on what you do. If you try and be someone you are not, you and only you suffer the most for it.

If you forget to be you.

A good smack in the head will always help! 😹

Help someone smile today. It can not hurt you.

Love,

Snook
