If actions speak louder than words, then why is the pen mightier than the sword? - Announcing 5 Steem Winner
Hello steemians! So i organized my first contest on steemit and i am very happy with how it turned out. Due to the nature of the topic, i got few responses which shows it was a tough one. I wanted to move away from the usual 'most comment upvote' and i was successful in doing that.
I got 5 valid entries. The participants are:
These people did great and i also try to evaluate their points to try make them see that their positions have some flaws.
Below is my evaluation:
Mike believes action truly speaks Lauder than words but thought actions are dependent on words such that without words there are no actions. Not everybody can speak and these people can act or perform many things. Words have its advantages but actions do not rely on it to be heard or meaningful. Mike’s point here is not convincing.
Also, most wars recorded in history are won by swords.
well done @mike4christ but there are inconsistencies in your argument.
@anikys3reasure was literal in her approach. She thinks there is an after effect to speaking what one wants to achieve and even after one has achieved it. She did wonderfully well by explaining the importance of pen! Well done @anikys3reasure
@esstyb thinks that actions are revealing and cannot be hiding. This is not totally true. There are people who will hide their intentions and no matter how you try you cannot know. People fake things a lot and can just start acting like we see in Hollywood and Nollywood. You might get to know their intentions later but we need to ask: before the deed is done or after?
Like @anikys3reasure, she also did excellently well on the pen and sword.
“Before Actions can become memories that will stick to people, they have to be publicized by the Pen.”
The above is an excerpt from @zoneboy's response but the claim is not totally true. I have memories of some acts by Jackie Chan, Odunlade and many other people which are in my brain and they were not passed to me via pen. It has even been argued that the best way to teach students is through audiovisual. So pen does not really have much chance in the instance he used.
Also, using the audience scenario is to limit the scope of the adage.
Like others, he also made a good point with his example of Mahatma Gandhi. Well done @zoneboy
@princefizzy did well with is explanation of actions. I can hardly fault his claim.
This “…whereas [sic] writing is a gift to the mankind” is false. Many have died via what was written in paper. Wars have been initiated and carried out by what was written in paper. It also has the power to destroy a whole country. It is not a gift as such except your definition of gift is 'destruction'!
In all, @princefizzy did exceptionally well. Well done @princefizzy
From the responses above, @princefizzy answer seems more plausible and a good response to the question I asked. For this reason, @princefizzy is the winner of this contest! I have transferred 5 Steem to @princefizzy.
Proof of transfer:
Thank you all for participating. You all did great. See you next time for another great contest.
Your boy @smyle the philosopher
Congratulations to all the participants, your points are clear and valid in my own assessment, @smyle I look forward to read your detailed philosophical view of this topic.
Really a good performance and even as our views differs, still naija here, the pen is more mightier than sword.
Thank You sir @smyle
