Those are interesting thoughts to ponder. I believe that the idea of "I/me" has an evolutionary functional role, in that it protects the individual organism and helps it survive in the world. However, some individuals have an epiphany in life and realize that "I" and the "self" are really just an illusion. I guess the idea is just not to get attached to the "I/self." Not to get attached to illusions.
We go through changes emotionally, developmentally, and intellectually over the course our lives as well. Even though you may change, you are still the same person at your core. I think "I" is perfectly acceptable no matter which aspect you are talking about.
