Can you taste the ambrosial scrumptiousness?steemCreated with Sketch.

It occurred to me today as I was making my way through the ravaged and barren kitchen cabinets, pantry shelves, fridge, and freezer to create a grocery list that this is a good example of the other side of the coin.

As the saying goes: Do you see the glass half full or half empty?

This refers to whether a person is an optimist by seeing a half-full glass of yummy goodness or if a person cynically sees that he has less than a full glass. This implies that the optimist is happier and has a more fulfilling life attitude and thus a better life.

I've been vacationing for 3 weeks and as I'm the person who does the grocery shopping, it didn't get done. When the food ran out Dear Hubby went out to eat. I don't mind and I'm very happy he got fed but if a person sees only that the glass is half full (in the cafe that is 'only' 20 minutes drive from the house) then, as it is apparent that there is still some fantabulicious yumminess left, why get another gallon from the grocery store? If a pessimist sees a half-empty glass then he knows it's time to restock before it is gone.

In my older and wiser years I'm beginning to more appreciate the folks who see a problem that is only just begun...

rather than the people who see the problem and alternatively start an ambitious project to make a more grand solution that will eventually get done but will take 5 years and 3 times the cash.

Not to say the more elaborate fix-it job couldn't make life better than the 'get'er done' job, I just think that the problem should be fixed long enough to last the intervening 5 years...

Is that too much pessimism? At least my man will have a new bag of coffee before he finishes the old one tomorrow.

You are right in many ways and for many people. I realize that some people are naturally the 'half-full' type but I feel that for other people that attitude must be forced. Trying so hard to see everything as a 'learning experience' or 'not necessarily a bad thing' makes them unhappy. Being a natural pessimist doesn't always mean that it makes you unhappy. Cynicism sometimes gives a person a lot of things to laugh about. It can work to make life fun if that person (OK... me) uses it to advantage rather than becoming neurotic or angry all the time. It can make me a tiny bit of a perfectionist at times though!

I quite agree with you, a person chooses himself which side to take. If he thinks pessimistically, then it will turn out that way. All thoughts materialize. You see what you want to see and get what you want.

Not sure that wanting a thing... even if you want it very much and can see yourself getting it will get it for you. There are many people who came onto steemit with every intention of being successful and are working hard for it but are not getting their success. It may be that there hasn't been enough time but it has been very discouraging for them.

Probably it is as you say, for someone one month is enough to be successful, while others can spend years to be so. In my opinion, sometimes it is a question of luck.
