Coffee and Philosophy: Humor is Medicine!

Today's "mug" brought to you by redneck Wal-Mart! Is it a cup? Is it a mug? Is it a soup-bowl? WHO KNOWS?!

I have been feeling my sense of humor returning quite strongly and I realize that I still have quite a similar sense of humor as I did before doing inner work and reflection. While I still like the same things and same types of humor, my perspective has shifted to a more positive approach to everything in life. Our mental outlook on everything really does make all the difference. Laughing is the best medicine and raises our positive energy. It's important to remember that we are using our humor in positive ways and not being self destructive or destructive towards others! Keep up the frequency and keep steemit fun and funny!

I have a serious question on the topic of humor:

What is your opinion Sarcasm? Sarcasm is my favorite kind of humor, from the light hearted irony to depressing cynicism, I love it all.

I feel like Sarkasm is often at home at the rather toxic sides of the internet. I also had some conversations on Steemit go awkward because of my humor and Sarcasm in particular.
I hear there are people who do not like sarcasm (in general, not steemit part.). Should I go more easy on it to avoid confusions. Some people take the most ridiculous statements of me serious.

Oh and saying something like" (sarcasm)"/"(irony_off)" ruins it for me, its like explaining a joke

Any thoughts philosophy-trail-senpai?

On mobile at the moment, but to answer your question, it took several of those problematic encounters you referred to for me personally to really comprehend that sarcasm doesn't translate over text. If the person doesn't know you VERY well it will cause problems. I started to just point it out like you said. While I love dry humor, it really needs to be clear or the context be overtly unmistakable to assume that it won't make you look like an asshole sometimes. That's why I changed my approach to dry humor through text anyway. I just pissed people off when I never meant to do so.

Thank you for the response. It is a somewhat important topic to me. As I was afraid, slowing down on the memes and non-sense statements ( I will miss them so much) seems like the way to go. I can still go on youtube to blow off some steem äh steam. ^^*

If you are German you should check out @leroy.linientreu , he needs to fix the audio on his videos, but the sarcasm is worth the ear pain ;)

My thoughts are that irony, sarcasm and dry humor are all victims of people living in a black and white logical, humorless world, -low IQ's are a problem too. Sarcasm is too often used to wound, but placed precisely it can be funny. just my thoughts...

I agree with much of that, but it doesn't really change the fact that dry humor or sarcasm over text doesn't really translate if you don't know the individual and they are unaware you are joking.
For example I could point out that you really must be blonde because you can't even spell the word. Would you take that as a sarcastic joke or me just being an asshole? I don't take myself that seriously and never really have, but it doesn't mean that other people don't.

I would respect your intellect for picking up on the very embedded subtlety of my tongue in cheek selection (as you know technically --with an e is the feminine and without is the male descriptor) So am I a male or female with pretty pictures and a sense of humor . And you are correct sarcasm does not translate too well in print.

:) On a side note I never notice males referring to themselves as blond, maybe I just haven't had many blond male friends. The females are always pointing out which of them are blonde though ironically.

Phil, there's still the chance I'm female making fun with the double subtlety of the dumb blond(e) that can't spell, but as the English language has so devolved I barely notice the your/you're faux pas that now prevails and r has officially replaced the actual word so doesn't much matter......

What plays into what you said is people getting overly butthurt about opinions and taking themselves to serious. I feel like sometimes people think that I am sarcastic but will take it seriously, because if I was serious and they would take it as sarcasm, it would lead to a more awkward situation than vice versa. I hate that. Even if Im serious, if you think my opinions are funny, just laugh about them. As long as a serious debate is not interrupted by constant memes, I see no problem with laughing about another once in a while.

Laughing is the best medicine and I am having lots more laffs since joining steemit. My sense of humor being both fluid and varying to wicked, at times gets me in a pickle. Know in when to quit is paramount, or so they say.

Living and laughing is WINNING on a large scale!

Nice words and points of view.
