Yes - good point. There should always be a 'reason' that one does what one does (even if its merely pleasant to oneself). Effort without direction does not generally sound like a good way to spend one's time.

A word of advice for future reference though. Try to avoid suggesting that people read a post that is unrelated to the article that is being written about. In 'this' case you're probably OK though - as there is the 'purpose/path' connection. ;c)
