No expectations, no disappointments

in #philosophy7 years ago

We tend to get disappointed due to our enormously high expectations. Whether it is relationships, events, people, work, etc. Disappointments gets us angry and sad because things didn’t turn out the way we imagined them to. We set the bar unrealistically high and have a tendency to get stressed out over things that are out of our control.

We pour our heart out and expect some kind of positive affirmation, only to end up disappointed.
When you are expecting something you want some kind of reward, and if that reward is less than you hoped for you will end up with disappointments.

Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed. – Alexander Pope

Everyday life can be stressful, we have work, family, commitments and a lot of things going on. And in all of this we tend to forget who we are and what we stand for. Many of us have a tendency to become pessimistic so they don’t have to deal with disappointments. They lower their expectations in order to not deal with those feelings, but you know what? That is just fooling yourself!
If you are an optimistic person and used to have high expectations of yourself, then you were expecting great results because you genuinely believed you deserved it. And guess what? You do!

To avoid getting those disappointments we lower our expectations, but in reality that is just an simple escape tactic. You are going against yourself and what you once believed. Never let the external world determine who you are, challenge the external and prove yourself.
Athletes do this all the time. In order to be the best you have to believe it. And you have to imagine yourself being on top, winning.

So will no expectations, no disappointments lead to a happy life? Not necessarily!

If you settle for smaller and smaller goals, you go against what you truly believe you are capable of. And you will end up being miserable, settling down with a mediocre lifestyle. You give up on your hopes and dreams in order to avoid this feeling of disappointment. Feeling disappointed from time to time is a part of life. So if you give in to this settling for less thing it will bother you every single day.

An attitude of Positive expecations is the mark of the superior personality. – Brian Tracy

I’m a glass half full kind of guy yet i tend to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. I always expect to be better than i was yesterday, i don’t want to settle for anything less than i believe i deserve. I will expect good deeds from myself and always strive to become a better person which is something i expect from me, for me.

“Expectations may sometimes lead you to disappointments, but the anger of getting disappointment may sometimes lead you to what you expected.”
