Superman and Friedrich Nietzsche

I have always wondered where the "superheros/ villans" idea came from. Last semester in college I learned about many philosophers and their influence in today's culture.   Friedrich Nietzsche  was the father of the "superman" concept. He was totally self absorbed and considered himself as a "superior being". Sadly he was denied marriage by his girlfriend...so he stated that women are the second biggest mistake God made. Ouch!
