How To Think Like A Philosopher To Help Steemit Grow.steemCreated with Sketch.

New thinking

If you wish to help Steemit, then philosophy is a great skill you should pick up with both hands. We all trust our @ned @andrarchy @sneak and Mitchell to steer us across the smooth seas of Steemit, but philosophy allows us to set into a pattern of habitually testing the reasoning behind what our Steemit seniors are doing.

All this allows us to be better thinkers, and in doing this we can easily spot poor thinking or false dichotomies - not that I've spotted many of those!

A tool that comes in handy when evaluating the latest Steemit claim, is to look for examples that might disclaim what is being said. Some people see this as negative thinking or trolling, but the role of philosophy as Wittgenstein once said is 'to destroy our idols'. We don't mean that we want to hurt Steemit here, but just probe her weaker underbelly for any underlying issues or weaknesses.

The world of befriending

There are many tools that we can use to evaluate issues that affect us, and it's a shame that philosophy is not a hard wired into ours brains from cognitive birth. There would certainly be a lot more love in the world if we were.

As well as all the strategies I send weekly to the #growth-ideas tag, I also like to try and systematically consider alternative possibilities too. This is common in the science community to make sure that we don't fall prey to inbuilt biases - we are all guilty of that on a daily basis! @baah is already my inbuilt Steemit compass of bias!

Doing this suspends all other habits of bias that may enter our minds, and it allows us to befriend our fellow Steemians - even if we do ring a few of their bells!! Yes! I have been guilty of that on here too. The trick is not just knowing the philosophy, it's also knowing the right time to apply the tools to your fellow Steemians (so be as kind as you can possibly be!)

Muse on my philosophical friends.
