Why it is so difficult to maintain happiness and satisfaction

in #philosophy7 years ago

If you look at happiness through the sense form of moments in your life where you felt true happiness, not ego identified happiness, but true inner happiness, most will see there are those moments. However, they are brief and limited.

Many people spend their lives in a state of almost permanent dissatisfaction. Most of it stems from what you think your purpose is. When people think of purpose, they often think of it in terms of the future, "What is my purpose? What am I going to do to be successful? What is my plan? What is my GOAL?" Now I'm not saying a goal isn't a good thing if it considered your outer purpose. It seems many of us are looking for a purpose or have already given up on one and are surviving, making a living caught up in the "doing" and stress of it.

Before outer purpose can be achieved, you have to realize you are overlooking your inner purpose. Inner purpose is aligning your life FULLY with the present moment because ultimately when you fall out of alignment with the present moment, you fall back into that state of dissatisfaction, which is a reality for many.

You cannot go beyond a state of dissatisfaction through a "future" goal like, "One day I want to reach fulfillment and happiness." You have to enter a state of fulfillment and satisfaction by becoming one internally with the present moment. Your inner purpose is to be totally and fully present where you are and in whatever you are doing at this moment-even if it doesn't look like your life's purpose-just to be total in doing it, being true to life by being true to this moment.

It is not hard to step out of the stream of excessive thinking. Mediation is one example. While you meditate, you focus on one thing like your breathing or concentrating on that sense of aliveness in your body. You take attention away from thinking and that in itself is a great realization-that you have a choice. You don't have to go with your attention where your habitual thinking wants you to go. That habitual thinking loves you to follow it from one negative thought to the next.

As you are to show others compassion, be compassionate with yourself. Often as people age, they realize they have caused some sort of suffering to themselves and those around them because of unconscious actions, but here is the thing. No human can act beyond their level of consciousness. So forgive yourself and realize that was your level of consciousness at the time and you could not go beyond it.

How you do what you do is most important. Contribute to a better world. You may have a job that society would classify as not highly important. For example let's say you own a small store. If you give every customer and person you interact with the quality of presence, your fullest attention, appreciate him/her as a human being, and how you can best help them in that moment-that is quality. Everyone that would come into contact with you would have a small lifting in their being.

The ego has MANY ideas, even if they seem well intentioned. You want to become more spiritual, but with the ego still there it turns into, "I want to be spiritual, more than anyone else and I am more spiritual than you so I want to be recognized for it." It may even tell you it wants to be a good person so it has a better image of itself. There's a phrase "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" because no matter how good you are trying to make your intentions, when you are trapped in the ego, it will always take you into conflict.

Be still and by still I mean that place where it's just being, conscious without the thinking. The problematic dimension is in the mind, not in the present. Yes life will give you challenges, but if I ask your right now what are your problems right now? You may tell me about financial issues, a loved one is sick, and so on. But right now at this very moment? You'd probably say there is no problem at this moment. Am I saying when the time comes the problem will disappear? No. I am saying when the moment comes and you're fully engaged in listening and dealing with the problem, you will have more of clear view with handling the situation. If you wake up at four in the morning worried about the next day, week, month, or year ahead, are you going to achieve solving that problem fully present at that moment? No. Take the challenge as it comes and give it your undivided attention at that time.
People will only evolve with challenges they encounter.

Be happy, positive, love yourself, and eachother 💞

Perfect truth. Thank you for reminding me, I need it. Resteemed. Namaste 💚

Lately I find myself more and more looking for this sort of inner peace. As the world around us seems to be darkening I believe that finding internal peace and purpose is extremely important. So many people are struck by mental illness and can't find their way out. Thanks for sharing 💜🙏

Be proud that you recognize internal peace 💖 And you've already got it 😊

The ego has MANY ideas, even if they seem well intentioned.

the only thing the ego can do for us is to teach us how to overcome IT.
