All of the above, @kimberlylane :-) I think you hit several nails on heads; consumer-culture is certainly part of the nihilism I see developing in modern western societies... The manufactured consumer-identities are cultivated like vegetables on farm-land with the intent to be traded on a market. When engaging in social media or when watching mainstream television, you, the consumer are the product being manufactured and sold... We're heading in the direction where every human interaction is basically a for-profit transaction... This is a nightmare we better wake up from soon.
