RE: Confusing Free speech

in #philosophy5 years ago

Saying whatever one likes is one thing but doing whatever they like is something else. They can talk about hateful mentalities or degraded positions on life but they may not get away with acting out abuse of another, that should be disallowed. The problem is that some use free speech to incite crime or to preach a criminal propaganda. Where do we draw the line? That will be the constant battle of words or speech I presume.

This excerpt is to me a golden nugget of information regarding this very subject.

Thanks @meno, let me check it out.
Hectic, the students can't speak out at college any more. It was always a place of free speech and radical thought. I have heard that academia is highly controlled and streamlined to conform to a certain group-think.
In my country of South Africa now, the black majority use the racist label for every white person who has opposing thoughts on the govt. It is the default go-to label for whatever you dare to say.

I've been told as much and it's deeply disturbing to say the least... we need to get over these regressive behaviors and fight back, because normalizing them is exactly how we bring about true social decay.
