The regular turn of phrases we use in our lives really are a type of old-style meme passed down from generation to generation. They are crucial to lively and engaging interaction. Just like the caption memes of today which are adopted and reused to spread a sort of inside joke so too do these phrases endear us to each other giving a sense of approachability as each of you knows the secret phrases to the club that is modern society.

The memes of today, primarily visual based, are an extension of what we've been doing since language began. Colloquialisms; dialects; all the way down to language are indicators of who your in-group are. To be english is to be a spooderman aficionado. Calling it pop, soda, or soda-pop is to favor one pony over another. It all continues the cycle of memes that will be passed down throughout the ages.
