GOOD LESSON IN FUTILITY

In 1977 I was fortunate enough to make the pilgrimage to Mayapur for Gaura purnima.

For anyone, pilgrimage to India and the holy places is a life-changer. I remember certain incidents very vividly.

One such incident was the bird nest in the ceiling fan.

The temple room at the Mayapura ISKCON temple is open. There is a roof but the walls are open. At least in 1977 they were. Every evening when the ceiling fans were turned off a bird would come and work all night, evidently, to make a nest in the ceiling fan. And every morning the bhakta would come with a broom and clear the nest out so he could turn the fan on. The bird was very persistent and did this every night and was chased out every morning.

Good lesson for me in the futility of trying to make a permanent home in this material world.
