Sunday Discussion: Cremation or Burial?steemCreated with Sketch.

in #philosophy8 years ago

It was a topic in that one movie I watched recently. Though I don't know or remember if it is really the recommended practice in Buddhism, as an organized religion or not, to prefer cremation over burial of the dead, in order to celebrate the cycle of life.

cremation

But it came to my mind that it seems that the obviously most reasonable way, scientifically, would still be burial. This is what really celebrates the (re-)cycling of life. Your dead body contributes to the re-fertilization of the soil, instead of to accelerated entropy and the heat death of the universe.

And Buddhism claims to be more a reasonable philosophy than a religion, so I sense there is a contradiction. Thoughts and opinions?

tnx :) though bucks aren't bad i was actually (no, really, actually and really really really) aiming for some good discussions

With no religious beliefs attached, I would go for cremation as we are simply running out of burial land for the living.

"running out of land", i.e. property is an artificial concept. we cannot "run out" of burial earth because we are earth... we come from it, we go back to it... isn't it strange how we keep forgetting?
