RE: Godless Morality: A Short Reflection On Our Fading Moral Skills

in #philosophy6 years ago

Wow, such a long wall of text...
Fast and first one, leave the invite to the discord at the bottom so it's easier.
Second... Well, I do agree on most of what you've said, it's the rulers' fault, and we keep supporting them, well, most people do anyways... Political and social separation hasn't helped either...
But yeah, it's all about morality in the end, not god's morality, not the law's morality, but our morality. Then again, morality is defined by society and culture... this world isn't fair nor equal, humans aren't the same, societies aren't the same, and what is good and fair in one place is abusive and oppresive in other places...

Thanks for wrestling through that wall, @ejgarcia, I appreciate that and your comment very much :-)

Yes, indeed: we're all different, that's the reality of our existence. And we'll never be equal or the same in any way conceivable in my opinion, that's also fact. But that doesn't imply that the world isn't fair. Why would it? Are we incapable of creating an environment in which we actively stimulate each other to do what's best for the well-being of as many people as possible? I think we can, but we'll have to let go of some very old and destructive dogma's like the one about survival implicating selfishness. We're as much altruistic creatures as we are survival-machines. But we've created an environment, adapted a dogma named capitalism that only stimulates, advertises, propagates selfishness and makes us believe ridiculous things like "you have to earn money first before you can give to charity". Capitalism first creates a few rich and a lot of poor and then celebrates the rich when they decide to give a fraction back. We don't have to be equal, not everybody needs the same amount of anything. But most people still believe there's scarcity and don't mind the hoarding behavior of their fellow humans because of that unfounded belief. We live in an age of overproduction of almost everything, but we still think and behave as if we're hunter-gatherers chasing after a rare piece of meat. Equality of outcome isn't realistic nor wanted; fairness on the other hand is a necessity to have equality of opportunity as modern libertarians like to say.

Sorry... another mini-wall ;-) Your well thought out comment deserved that... Thanks again!

Yeah, don't worry, I like reading wall of texts if they have "feelings" and "belief" behind them. I really hate modern capitalism and modern socialism, neither of them help anything; it's just like you said, we live in an era of overproduction, we should work about 2 days per week through rotation, salary should be lower, but so should prices...
Have you seen the VenusProject? It's one of the few projects I'd like to see come to life and support in fullest. https://www.thevenusproject.com/
And just like you said, we aren't equal, but that's no reason for the living conditions of many people out there or for the way of thinking of many others...
