What truly is important to you? Pondering the truth inside ourselves...

in #philosophy8 years ago (edited)

For some is abortion, others gay marriage, others immigration, others pizzagate, others taxes... What is TRULY important to you?

I have noticed and I am sure you have too that people tend to latch on to specific issues as their one issue. They will often latch onto that issue like a wolverine in a death grip. Yet, I often wonder how often these ONE issues are used to keep us intentionally focused on that thing, while in reality many other things could happen that might make that ONE thing irrelevant.

Here are some current hot items:

  • Abortion: Pro-Life vs Pro-Choice
  • Gay Marriage
  • Immigration
  • Pizzagate
  • Taxes - lower them

I too have my stance on each of these. Yet there are cases where focusing on these things is focusing on a single square on a chessboard, when we should be looking at the entire board.

Abortion

I am an Anarcho-Capitalist/Voluntarist who basically evolved into that via the Libertarian path. I have however, in 2008 and 2012 been involved in the GOP as a delegate as I tried to get Ron Paul elected. I am now registered as an independent. As an Anarcho-Capitalist it could be argued that I am being a hypocrite by participating at all. That is a tale for another post, and if you really want to know reply and let me know perhaps we can hash it out in comments or you'll inspire me to clarify. If you TRULY think about reality and how it works rather than looking for a place to jab at though then likely you'll know why without needing to ask.

I watched factions in the GOP push for Pro-Life. That was their one big issue. For some people there is no issue more important than whether a woman can CHOOSE to abort or not. I'm actually on the pro-choice side. You'd think the Non-Aggression Principle I follow would not accept that as I am killing life. I know enough about biology and single cell organisms and up to know that the components of a baby are alive IN your body before conception. Technically you using the restroom, you ejaculating, you menstruating, etc is LIFE. So the life begins at conception statement logically does not make sense to me. If I were leaning to religion they could say that is when the soul is created or finds an anchor/home. If we are not leaning on religion then the truly important thing to me is consciousness. When does consciousness begin? When does a person suddenly think "I, Me, My?" If we are concerned with such things then finding this out becomes paramount if we are going to push the anti-abortion thing with any logical reason...

Yet that is still missing the chess board by focusing on a single square. The thing that always got to me is the same people pushing the anti-abortion stance could turn around and wholeheartedly support wars of aggression, "police actions", violent interventions, regime change, etc. All of these things kill many innocents, and bystanders as well. Yet for some reason abortion is bad, but collateral damage is okay. Logically this makes the entire "pro-life" label hypocritical. There can be exceptions... Occasionally, you'll run into the person who UNDERSTANDS this and they will be pro-life, and anti-war.

They often will give up their freedoms, and gradually be more and more enslaved by people that will promise them this one thing, and with the other hand they can do whatever they want.

Gay Marriage

As an Anarcho-Capitalist I see Marriage essentially as a contract between TWO people. It could actually be more than two people if you are doing some group marriage, or other even non-conventional marriage than gay. It is between those two people and what the rest of us believe is irrelevant. In fact, in the truth of the matter if people want to consider themselves married there is no reason I see for them not to.

Where the issue actually comes in is GOVERNMENT. The only reason this is an issue is that due to the government marriage suddenly defines you in different ways for taxes, it defines who has access to you in the hospital if you are in a bad way, it defines who gets your property, it dictates access to children of members in the marriage, and if the marriage doesn't work out it enables the government to be able to dictate how the property should be distributed.

So if the government were not in the picture it would be a non-issue. It boils down to that aspect of government which enables one group of people to FORCE other people to live a certain way. In some nations it is worse, because those nations may also be ruled by religion, and that religion may demand the death of such people.

Yet even this is focusing on a single square on the chess board.

Immigration

This is currently a hot issue. In one hand people want their government to do all sorts of things for them, and some people are really happy when the government promises "free" things. Free education, Free Healthcare, Free housing, Free food, as these are all things that it FEELS GOOD to believe every person should have a RIGHT to. Yet in reality there is no such thing as free of this type. Those things must be paid for in some way. Your government does not produce anything but laws, and regulations. Therefore they have no source of income other than taking it from you in the form of taxes. I will cover this more when I get to taxes.

Yet in the case of immigration this is something else. Immigration assumes you are in a nation that people can move into. A nation implies that you are in a geographical territory that has borders for where that territory begins and ends. So the battle here for those that don't believe there should be a thing such as illegal immigration and deportation is the question of "then why have borders?". As an anarcho-capitalists I believe such a world would be possible, but not in a world where people still believe in entitlement, and right to FREE stuff. This mysterious FREE stuff now has to be also provided to anyone that comes here.

To me if we were to use time lapse photography from the sky, or make a video game to simulate it, it would be a great cockroach game. This area promised more FREE stuff than the others, so the cockroaches begin to congregate in that area, and there were only limited resources so after giving out FREE stuff, and insufficient remains to provide more FREE things people begin to riot and talk about how "unfair" things are. Eventually they see another territory that currently is offering more FREE stuff, but only recently started doing it. Now they scurry over there and the cycle repeats.

There is no free stuff, and we do not have endless resources. In a world where governments do exist, and a sense of entitlement does pervade most of humanity, we need borders, and we need to control the flow of immigration. If you would like to see this change so this square on the chess board does what you DREAM it should do then you need to look at the entire chessboard. We need to remove entitlement from our minds, and teach logic/critical thinking. We need to have a population that does not exist in a world of "magical thinking" where everything they want can just happen magically without requirements. We need a population that when those resources are not there does not get outraged and cry, but instead focuses on possible solutions and ways to address that. We would eventually need a world that did not require a government, but that would take a vast change in education, and the minds of the people. That is a long term goal and ultimately is the direction I'd like to see humanity head, but I do not see it being feasible without generations of changes to the way we approach many things. I do not believe it would work at all today, due to our natures, our cultures, our entitlement, and our concept of "fair/unfair".

Yet even this is but one square on the chessboard.

Pizzagate

If the implications of Pizzagate are true then it is truly a deplorable act. I do not want to dwell too long on it as this currently a hot topic and tons of people are talking about it. You can easily research it and find out as much as is available at the moment and make your own decision. I will up vote well reasoned posts about Pizzagate as I support investigating anything. The truth is not about making us comfortable. However, I don't write such posts myself, because I already see plenty of HORRIBLE/DEPLORABLE things happening daily around the world. They are shrugged off mostly and accepted as the norm. I cannot really focus on Pizzagate when children and people are being killed around the world regularly by other acts, wars, laws, etc. We have a world where the term Collateral Damage is treated like the cost of doing business rather than as something that was an accident and should be prevented in the future. There is no prevention involved. The Collateral Damage is acceptable. Or that is what they would have us believe. To me this is just as bad as Pizzagate, but it is treated as the norm and acceptable. I've heard many a "religious" person who indignant over Abortion, or Pizzagate, turn around and advocate something that will result in countless deaths due to collateral damage. They fail to see this.

I believe this is due to focusing on one square of the chessboard at a time rather than looking at the bigger picture, and trying to think as many moves ahead as we can with regards to the outcomes of those moves.

Taxes

For some people taxes are the biggest issue. I don't endorse them as I see them as theft. I am not voluntarily giving them, for if I fail to pay them I will end up in jail or dead if I resist. This makes them force. Yet let's for a minute not think about them from my viewpoint that they shouldn't exist in the first place. Let's instead look at them as if they did need to exist, for there are still issues there.

All of that FREE stuff that people want such as healthcare, education, etc involves people doing work to provide those services whether it is the teacher, the person working in a factory to make education materials, the nurse, the doctor, the pharmacist, the chemist, etc. They all need a wage and to be paid. The materials to do those things do no magically materialize out of thin air. So the FREE things promised by socialists, politicians, etc are NOT free. They have to be paid for. Anytime someone is promising some new FREE thing that means new funds must be acquired. This means more taxes, or if not taxes then more black money sources such as colluding with criminals through back channels. Yet the black money would likely never go to the things you want, thus why it is "black". This means any promise of FREE stuff is always a tax increase. Furthermore, taxing the rich or taxing any particular tax bracket is unsustainable in the long run as well. The horde of cockroaches seeking the free things will consume it quickly, this is especially true if you have no immigration, because now you have more cockroaches coming from other "nations/states" to consume the "free" stuff.

Yet even that is only one aspect. The other aspect is that the government is filled with lobbyists and corrupt people. They have far more bureaucrats and administrators than are needed. If you were to go out and spend $100 to buy something you would get $100 worth of product. If you instead hired the government to do it and you gave them $100 in taxes. In the end run you'd be lucky if you got $20 worth of product. The other $80 would be consumed by administration, or spent on other things like funding some of those acceptable collateral damage activities.

A person looking at the chessboard would likely think giving $100 to the government and only producing $20 worth of activity from that is a rather stupid move. Yet many people are so focused on looking at a single square on the board that they do not think this through.

There is a strategy involved in keeping us looking at these single squares. As we yell about one square or another they are using our demands to gradually (though it is accelerating) enslave us.

For what is a slave, but a person who MUST do what they are told, and if they do not bad things happen to them?

That was the places my mind was wandering this morning...

i like this post... especially the no free stuff part...upvoted!
but how about smiles? smiles can be free!

Heh. Until the government forces them. ;)

Go to businesses, restaurants, etc where you can tell they are told to always smile... A forced smile is not the same. :) Smiles that occur without conscious decision are truly a beautiful thing though. Genuine.

sometimes forced smiles are funny :) and that can lead to being genuine :)

Money can be free too... if I freely/voluntarily give it to you with no strings attached. :)

Smiles are just a selfish desire for safety and/or to get something from the person you smile on.

that's one perspective.. :)

You agree? Don't agree?

c'mon a bit philosophy fight here! I made such a nice start!

Heheh.... Smiles can be free... Though I thought of another dark thing. What if the person is a sadist? Them smiling very well could be costing someone something. ;)

I too have my stance on each of these. Yet there are cases where focusing on these things is focusing on a single square on a chessboard, when we should be looking at the entire board.

The above summarized this article very well IMO.

I tire of discussions that repeatedly focus on only the symptoms and don'task questions to drill down into deeper root causes. I see it all the time in political discussions. Those who are quick to dismiss conspiracies come to mind first, especially those who claim "the guber-ment is too incompetent to carry out a plan of the magnatude of 911 or JFK". They fail to recognize there are those who manipulate and orchestrate events that cause guber-ment actors to enact policies or move certain agendas forward. They look at the superficial and attribute the cause to puppets rather than the puppet masters.

Money is the perfect tool for manipulators, as it provides the perfect cover for the real puppet masters.

Unfortunately the promise of digital currencies is not likely to eliminate that as I once thought it could. Even if the guber-ment / fed or all politicians were required by law tomorrow to provide transparency by requiring all financial transactions to be done on an open ledger blockchain, transparency would eventually fail and ways to circumvent that to hide assets, and money flow would be devised.

It's much the same as businesses want a way to hide all of their transactions from their competitors, but customers require charities to be open and transparent. The same blockchain can't be 100% transparent and protect privacy simultaneously. The 2 principles are diametrically opposed to each other.

I've come to realize the drive to be free from control is very powerful and neither 100% control nor 100% freedom can ever exist. I realize that point is off topic, but it arises from my desire to be free from the repressive control of puppet masters and that can't happen if I refuse to acknowledge their existence or fail to identify them.

The reality is that the actual root cause of evil / tyranny and the desire to control others is a fault in the minds of mankind that fails to recognize objective truth and natural law. Such denial of reality will result in an opposing force to counteract it by those who value truth, freedom and the peace and prosperity that comes with living in harmony to reality.

Stephan Molyneux has written much about morality and that true morality must be universal. On that point I agree with him. I also agree with him that eliminating violence from the way children are raised would be a huge influence and counterbalance to immorality and the propagation of patterns of evil. However, I also believe it is naive to think evil and violence can be totally and 100% eliminated.

I agree. I don't believe in achieving perfection. Likewise I do not believe in a true Utopia.

Yet, I believe there are things we can do and ways we can do that would likely tend to increase the chance of FREEDOM being the norm and not the exception.

I am just feeling like I want to troll a little bit. Many people are considering themselves as pro-life but refuse immigration, sending back people whose life in their original country is threatened. This looks like a contradiction to me...

I didn't down vote you by the way... that's the @asshole bot it seems. I don't down vote subjectively or due to disagreement. I'd also never down vote someone like you in those cases without a serious dialog. I'd say it is damn near impossible it'd ever happen in your case.

I think I am on the asshole downvote list. All my posts (including comments) are downvoted. I don't care, don't worry ;)
