Perceptual Fabrication: Truth Created By Consciousness
What is it that the mind wants?—what is it that it creates?
Surely the situation—as it truly is—is not representative of how the situation is perceived. We are builders and fabricators of the most skilled sort; able to shift, mold, modify, create, and ultimately project and consume our own personal theater.
It cannot be called delusion when we know we're doing it. But, then, how are we to decipher what is genuine and what is contrived? How are we to interpret our experiences when we know them to be fabricated?
What is real, what is genuine?
It seems our minds cannot divorce authenticity from fabrication; we've woven them into each other.
If we know the information produced by the self—and for the self—to be compromised, how then are we to understand information being related to us from an outside source? For their information must also be contrived, and we—upon consuming their work of fiction—are also busy weaving it through our own mental filters and biases to create a new truth for ourselves based on what was related to us.
Perhaps, then, the idea of a situation as it truly is—as opposed to the situation as it is perceived or as it is communicated—is, itself a misconception. For we can know nothing about what we are, in this instance, calling "true" and can only know about what we perceive. In a sense then, our consciousness creates the truth, as it relates to us and our experience, and that is the only truth we can—in any meaningful sense—know.
