Meditation Doesn't Cost Anything But Time

Meditation has been exercised for thousands of years by millions of people around the world. It is a practice that has been employed by people who hold a variety of beliefs: Christians, Buddhists, atheists, and others. Some of the earliest written records related to meditation come from around 1500 BCE. Almost anyone can meditate, you don't need to be part of a specific religion in order to try it or practice it on a regular basis. It's not about your beliefs, it's about being in the moment and being aware and present; freeing the mind.

Meditation is a practice that many people today still engage in around the world on a daily basis. Practicing meditation is said to have been shown to greatly help to relax the body, relieve stress, calm the mind, increase happiness, and provide other benefits. There are a number of different types of meditation, like mindfulness meditation, zen meditation, and several others. But what I'm going to discuss here is breathing meditation.

Breathing meditation is just one popular method of meditation and this form of meditation requires the individual to sit comfortably and clear their mind, while focusing on the sensation of breathing. It can be done while sitting up or lying down, but it's most commonly done while sitting up comfortably.

For those who are beginners to meditation, like myself, the breathing meditation method is an easy one to get started with because it simply requires you to try and clear your mind as best that you can and then you need only focus on your slow breathing. It is about focusing on your breath, but not trying to control it, and allowing your mind to narrow in on the sensation of your breath as it enters and leaves your body. For those who practice this on a regular basis, many have said that it offers them a vast amount of greater inner peace and relaxation. For some more advanced individuals who are used to meditation on a regular basis, the breathing meditation will simply be a warm up to a more advanced style of meditation. But for others it's a great place to start.

So much of the stress that we endure in life quite often comes from our mind and the thoughts that we keep telling our self over and over, meditation might be able to help to bring more peace by enabling us to gain better control of our minds, and it doesn't cost anything to try but time.
