The reason why people don't show kindness outside the friends/family unit is because it (used) to come with risks. Since we have eliminated almost all risks the human animal perceives social risk as the new risk.
Its impossible to be kind all the time and people will take advantage of you if you do. Choose your battles for maximum kindness distribution!
I appreciate that as well! Social risk has become our new risk and we analyze dangers associated with that. By no means am I saying be kind all the time. Rather, learning to be kind in a society where we look out for ourselves is unconventional. Exactly, maximum distribution :) what efforts do the most good?
Think about the time when if it wasn't for someone's help you would have been stuffed & pass it forward. Don't do it for bragging rights on social media, do it because you belive.
