PATRON SAINT OF THE DAY: For Toulouse, France

The 29th of November is the feast of Saint Saturninus. Sent by Pope Fabian to proselytize the Gauls with six other saints, Saturninus went to Toulouse in southwestern France and became its first bishop.

Tradition states that Saturninus had to pass by the pagan oracle everyday on his way to his church. As such the gods and deities within fell silent. Enraged, the pagan clergy captured Saturninus and tried to force him to to pay homage to their gods. Upon his refusal, they tied him to to a bull and he was dragged to his death in 257.
