#3 Learning to succeed from plants - an analogy

in #philosophy7 years ago (edited)

In trying to get a plant to produce fruits, I do not speak to it constantly of the need to generate fruits nor of my need for the fruit. The benefits of the fruit are a by-product of the fruit itself being produced. For the fruit to be produced, the plant has to be in good health.

My communication to the plant therefore has to be towards nurturing it with soil, sunlight and water.

These are the currencies of trade that will trigger the appropriate environment for the plant to grow. In return, the plant expresses its healthy state by producing fruits in season and if nurtured appropriately would continue to do so for the lifespan of the plant, provided these things are provided.

We often focus more on our outputs and burden ourselves with expectation of results. But results, like fruits to plants are a produced as a by-product of being nurtured with the required input.

Goals can be achieved if plans are drawn to explore how much practice, studying and what competencies are required in order to achieve those goals. Like the frequency of watering of these plants, one must make a self-assessment in order to understand the areas of strength and weaknesses that can play a significant role in achieving those goals.

Our focus begins internally. Not ‘what must happen for my goals to be realised?’ but ‘what can I do in order to generate results that are complimentary toward reaching my goals?’

What needs to be learnt, in what environment and what finally must be avoided for this personal growth to take effect!?
