Pain Is A Benefit, Why?

Pain is something that ridicules us every day, but we live with it not knowing what good or harm it can do to us.



Living Without Pain

Is it possible for us to live without pain? Well, when I was writing this post I started to have nostalgic memories of Harry Potter, and there was this great quote that I had rediscovered from J. K. Rowling herself: "What's life without risk."

We take many risks and chances in our life hoping we reach the end jubilant and delighted but sometimes the harsh reality is that it ends in regret and dismay.

There are many different types of pain that we can feel on a day to day basis, and one of them is physical pain.

So our scenario for today is that we are still our usual self with functioning pain receptors and our quest will be to stop feeling pain in any shape or form.

First of all, to be able to complete our quest of being pain-free we would have to live in solitude, away from society as that is one of the greatest sources of pain on this earth. We inflict great damaging effects to our own kind leaving the victim to be consumed by grief and misery in seclusion.

Humans are a species that live off of social interaction, and it would drive you insane if you are in such an isolated environment. It is the primary driving factor which keeps us happy and without it, ironically our pain will continue to last despite the fact we have gotten away from the very people that hurt us.

Pain is also a fundamental way in which we can detect any wounds or injuries which would have gone unadvised if we didn't have a sharp jab of pain throwing out its distress flare for us to identify the laceration as fast as we can.

Not only is there physical pain that we encounter but there is also emotional pain which causes the greatest scars on some people. It does not just affect us as a person but it is something that sticks, brews and manifests us psychologically.

In the general sense: pain is ironic. The purpose of pain is to avoid it. However, there is no avoiding pain no matter how much you try. It seems the more you resist the notion, the more it persists.

Therefore pain is not something to be feared, but to be understood & internalised. You can also see pain as a type of teacher, a kind of love even. But no matter how you interpret pain, its essence remains unchanging which we should learn to embrace rather than to run away from.

Whether or not it's possible to live in a way void of pain is irrelevant; even the desire to live without pain causes pain. To effectively learn from suffering, you must embrace it. In this way, pain is internalised instead of rejected.

From one of my study I got this down and I wish to share.

Emotional pain not only forces us to change, it also accompanies the process of change. While usually exciting, learning new ways to think and behave can also be scary and uncomfortable. The old ways of living die hard, under the spur of emotional pain, while new patterns of thought and behavior are born in discomfort and anxiety.

What I regret is when people, because of fear or embarrassment, wait until the last possible moment to seek mental health consultation. Sometimes it is too late to make constructive changes.
