Is Beauty Subjective?
Many people have heard of the saying, 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder.' I am trying to find out if this statement is true. I am trying to see if something as unpleasant as some puke is more beautiful than a glistening diamond and so on.
This can also be looked at in music. Can one song be objectively better than another song? Does lyrical content make one song better or is it the melody? Sometimes the lyrics of a song can drift us off into another world and completely free our minds. Other times the melody of a song is so catchy that we can't stop dancing to it. As of recent, it seems like the melodies of many Spanish songs have been taking the world by storm such as Despacito.
We all have subjective factors in songs which make us like a song and others not like a particular song. However, I think there must be an objective component that makes one song more beautiful than another to a larger majority of people.
Is Maths Objective and Can It Prove Beauty Is Objective?
If we genuinely think about it, maths doesn't really exist. It is just a means of making sense of the observable universe. Making sense of the relationships and workings within it, just like literary definitions. These conceptual models and structures that originates and exists in the mind.
Of course, the same model can arise independently. However, that is since it comes from from the same source. It is a means of making sense of the visible universe.
Let's think of it differently. The word 'apple' is just as objective as maths. If an alien lifeform also has the objects that we describe as 'apples,' they will have their own way of describing it. The apple is objective to them. We see it as sustenance, they may see it as something else. It is to help us understand physical observations.
My Thoughts
I guess that you can say that if a majority say something is beautiful, it is not objectively beautiful. If beauty is truly objective, we would be able to measure and test for beauty without having to get a third opinion from humans.
However, if beauty is subjective, no one's judgement can be wrong. If somebody says that,'a diamond is much more alluring than a pile of puke.' Anyone can turn around and say, 'No. Puke is more aesthetically pleasing than a diamond.' In this case, no one would be wrong. It would be a stalemate. Neither of you are wrong as you have your own opinions.

Trully good post... though I think that aesthetics is something we bring with our dna (or even mRNA) and it is somehow connected with survival rates. For example most people find cute babies and puppies. They have more "round" features and curves are appealing. This increases the chances for them to be liked and loved and therefore increases the chances of survival. Defects on the other hand sometimes are not aesthetically welcomed, most likely because our genes are programmed to like the healthiest form of our species.
I think beauty has a objective and a subjective value, and neither should influence the other in my opinion.
