Our Minds - Alan Watts 💛
Today I'll be looking at another one of Alan Watts' speeches. Despite all the hardships and inner turmoil, I have had Watts to reroute me to the path of happiness and endearment.
Vicious Cycles Of The Mind
My Thoughts
Take a second and ask yourself, will this worrying do anything to affect the result? If the answer to this question is no, say screw it and move along. It is hard initially, however with time you can do it. We tend to stick to these feelings instead of letting go.
I too have issues with overthinking from time to time. It influences my sleep sometimes. I have realised that once in a while it is best just to calm the brain and just be. It can be truly astonishing. Just stop what you are doing and just exist, even if it just for a few moments. The way I do it is with focus. You will be a changed individual if you have a session of oneness with yourself and let all the tension you have built vanish and evaporate.
I look around the room or my mind and focus all my energy on it without thinking too much about my actions. It could be a deformity in a wall, a hairline crack in the ceiling. It could just be an object that catches my eye, whatever it is, I just put my focus on it for some time and separating myself from the outside world. Removing myself from the issues I face and break free from the confines of my mind.
I eventually reach a point in which my mind is relaxed, I take every intricate detail in about the thing I am focusing on or just close my eyes and 'just be'. It can take some time to get used to; sometimes your mind will try to wander somewhere else or seek other stimulation. I have been doing this kind of meditation for a while. I feel calmer, happier and better in general; all my bad energies just seem to leave.
In the end, you need to embrace these detours that your mind takes. It is natural. Try not to put that pressure on yourself wishing you could be somebody you aren't yet. By realising this in yourself, you can start taking little steps towards freedom and tranquillity. Mount Everest is conquered by small steps, not one giant leap. Remain calm and resilient rather than charging head first into animosity.
Great post on the human mind. I like your strategy of focusing on an object to try and let go of tension and worrisome thoughts. I am gonna try this to try to calm my over active mind and feel better :)
Great, my friend! I consider myself a professional in this meditation technique! I have been practicing this since childhood! The main thing is not to get too involved with the subject on which you switch focus! With me this happens! And in the next frame - I'm running to the store to buy shpatlevku and eliminate this crack in the wall! 😍😘😗😙😚🤗🤗
