Do You Agree With That 'You Only Live Once'? 💛

YOLO!

To be honest, I have never seen the appeal in doing dangerous activities for the reason 'YOLO.' If we only live one, wouldn't you want to avoid dangerous things to extend the length of your life? However, I do see the side that doing these fun and dangerous things give your life more purpose and give you great memories before you die. I have heard some say that you have to give life meaning and you would by doing these dangerous things.

However, how are you able to distinguish whether you are close to death in an accurate manner?

I believe that danger is subjective. Different people find different things dangerous. Let's take skydiving as an example. If you are a skydiving instructor, you would say that skydiving isn't scary nor dangerous. However, if it is your first time and you are petrified of heights, you would say skydiving is very dangerous. You are plummetting to the ground at hundreds of kilometres an hour.

Death is the inevitable doom of every being. It does not matter if you believe if you are nearing death or not; you could die at any time. Some people just have to hear that, and they'll instantly start doing some dangerous activities to make sure they have lived life to the fullest.

Due to the fact that death is inevitable, you shouldn't fear death. You should embrace it. This was taught to us by Seneca and Epicurus in Seneca's Letters. We are taught that it is better to live life how you want to rather than conforming to the expectations of society and living a life which you did not enjoy.

Here's an excerpt from Seneca's Letters, Book One, Letter XXIV:

Epicurus upbraids those who crave, as much as those who shrink from, death: "It is absurd," he says, " to run towards death because you are tired of life, when it is your manner of life that has made you run towards death." And in another passage, "What is so absurd as to seek death, when it is through fear of death that you have robbed your life of peace?" And you may add a third statement, of the same stamp, "Men are so thoughtless, nay, so mad, that some, through fear of death, force themselves to die."

For those who have watched Vikings, here is some advice that Ragnar gave to Bjorn:

Don't fear death. If it comes embrace it as if you are lying down next to a beautiful woman.

You should celebrate the day you die as they day that you have truly lived a fulfilling life instead of dying in vain.

What do you think? Are you one who would close yourself off in fear of death? Or would you run outside, laugh in the face of danger and shout 'YOLO!'

How can we increase ranking on steemit.

Expert opinion please?

There is difference between living and really living, but I guess avoiding unnecessary danger is smart living.

Interesting question. I ride a motorcycle, have been riding for more than 50 years. Do I tempt death every time I saddle up? Of course I do. Do I tempt death every time I cross a busy street on foot? Yep.

For me, it's all about living my life to the utmost. Whether it's dangerous or safe, real or perceived, I want to make the absolute most out of my turn at life. That's all.
