The etymology of etymology???steemCreated with Sketch.

Anyone out there ever wonder what the etymology of 'etymology' is? I didn't! But, now that I know.. I wonder why the fuck I was never curious about it before and why I had never known what the meaning of it was until now.

Modern definition is basically.. "The study of the history of language"

BUT.. The word itself appears to mean.. "Study of true meaning"

This creates all kinds of weird questions for me.. Cause.. It seems like language should evolve and.. Get more complex and all that.. However.. The word for studying the history of language, itself implies that the older meanings are more true...?

What the mind fuck. :|

I mean it's not necessarily something I haven't thought of before, especially in regards to the chance that we're using a slave language and that something more ancient is actually more expressive so to speak, like the possibilities and such.. But that's what the word actually means and I'm kinda extra fascinated now.. Here. I'm just going to copy paste this part.

"For example, the word etymology comes to us from the Ancient Greek language. It is composed of two parts: the Greek word etymon, which means "the true sense of a word", combined with the Greek element logia, which means "doctrine, study". Combining these two parts gives us "the study of the true sense of words", which can be said to be the 'meaning' of the word etymology."

So if you found etymology curious before and didn't know this! It's prob a neat lil moment, if you weren't really aware of etymology before.. You may wanna get more interested in it.. And learn more about the etymological meaning for the language you use.. Cause.. There's a whole other world of meaning oftentimes for a lot of the things we say and think we understand. ._. And.. According to the etymology of etymology.. it might even be more "TRUE" Than the language we are using now.. :|
