Someone commented to me in private that the Second Law of Thermodynamics only applies to closed systems. I pointed out that the implication applies to universal trend.

If universal entropy did not trend to maximum, then it would mean that there’s a possibility for thermodynamic systems to be reversible, but that would require that time doesn’t exist and the past and future are indistinguishable.
