Podcast: The Amateur Society – Frustration, Boredom, And Identity – 07.31.2017

in #philosophy7 years ago (edited)

All of us experience frustration and boredom at various intervals. Occasionally we’ll go through a season where they occur simultaneously, and other times they will take turns occupying the forefront of our attention. Often these conditions don’t rise to the level of our full attention, but perhaps they should. A proper investigation of them can deliver important insights about ourselves and how our identity is developed. Generally, we typically view our routines and standard operating procedures as less interesting because of a lack of novelty and the dullness of repetition. However, proper perspective dictates that the more time we dedicate to something the more interested we should be in it. Our habits and routines are a large part of what defines our decisions and ultimately our identities. How our worldview structures our outlook on these apparently more benign states has much more importance than meets the eye.
