Lying is a very difficult skill!!

in #philosophy6 years ago (edited)

Hello stemians. Children are known to be bad liars; it took them sometime before they can lie professionally. I have been reading a book about body language. The writer indicated that when a person is lying he usually tends to move his hand toward his mouth. This gesture is more obvious at early age as a child completely covers his mouth when he is trying to fake what he knows.

Body functions are affected by lying, changes in heart rate, blood pressure, perspiration rate occur. A polygraph is used to measure the changes in person’s vital signs to determine if he is telling a lie.

As telling what he knows is the natural reaction, it takes a tremendous effort for a child to make his first lie as his body resists, the subconscious mind tries to hide the lie and nothing feels good about it. Lying is a very difficult and complex skill, it requires the child to be forced to not tell the truth.

Children are blackmailed by parents to behave in certain ways that are not appealing to them. They have to be swayed from who they really are to win their love and affection or to avoid punishment. While love and affection is essential for children well being they have two options either to succumb to their parents demand compromising their own authenticity which is very difficult to let go or to fake a lie.

The more the parents are judgmental, critical and hold high standards for their children the more they literally force them to lie. That is why we find more liars in the said more religious societies, societies that emphasize on social image where parents give much attention to how others are judging them regarding the behavior of their children and societies that are closed minded to certain rules that shouldn’t be violated by their members.

Children also can’t lie before they watch someone lying. They can’t figure out what is lying on their own.
For a child to lie he should be forced to fake the truth that he knows and he must have seen someone lying in the first place. Both make parents guilty of having a lying child and society as a whole guilty if its individuals are liars.

Thanks.
