How to know you are not aligned with your true self !!?

in #philosophy6 years ago (edited)

In our everyday life we push ourselves hard in order to accomplish our goals, fit in the societies we live in and meet our responsibilities to the point that we lose our connection with our essence. There are some implications of being unaligned with our true selves I would like to outline some of them here:

  1. Unjustified depression or anxiety.
Many successful individuals surprisingly are on medication for anxiety or depression. Despite their booming success they still feel vulnerable and anxious. The past few years we have heard of celebrities who suddenly have committed suicide. We knew later that they had suffered severe depression despite being ultra-successful and famous. Your life can be seen bright from outside but from within you know that there is something wrong.

  2. Seeking validation and trying to impress other people.
When you are aligned with your true self your own values are the reference against which you judge yourself. Your own self-esteem is independent from what is happening in your external world. You see yourself through your own standards and how others perceive you have nothing to do with your self-confidence. But when you lose contact with your own values, standards, and priorities you seek external validation to assume confidence of yourself.

  3. Comparing yourself with others.
The less you know yourself, the less acquainted you are with your own strength, and the less you value your faculties the more you find yourself in state of seeking validation through comparing yourself to others. Comparison brings more comparison until it eventually becomes an addiction.

  4. Little satisfaction for whatever you accomplish, success doesn’t bring about the expected contentment.
Whatever you get there is a feeling that something is still missed. You do your best to achieve the goals admired and acknowledged by society. You are enjoying strong-will and pushed yourself hard to meet what would make you successful. Eventually, there is an emptiness within that hasn’t been filled with that success. You believe that more success is required, but when there the emptiness still exists.

  5. A sensation that there is something that should be done. You can’t identify what exactly this thing is.

  6. Exaggerating psychological pain.
Being misaligned with yourself is emotionally painful. With every day distractions the pain becomes dormant and unconsciously becomes part of who you are. It only requires simple triggers to awaken the dormant pain. Overreacting, irritation, over-protection and sensitivity are indications of dormant and unresolved pain.

  7. Little enthusiasm and low spirit.
As success doesn’t feel like what you expected, you would lose interest in achieving your set goals. With time you don’t feel enthusiastic about any new achievement.

  8. Your mind tells everything is ok but your heart doesn’t believe.
The mind's purpose is to protect you. Your mind is very good at reciting what might go wrong. On the other side your heart holds your genuine creative energy. Unless the heart is suppressed by the mind it can guide you to what is really matters.
