Your Mind Is Not Yours Neither Is Your Make Your Effort.

Hello Steemians, I wish to briefly drop this after having been inspired by Mark Twain's What Is Man. But first off, how is the weekend going at your end? True you are great.

So what about this Mind stuff and you not being its real owner? Well, many great thinkers, including Sigmund Freud the Austrian neurologist, argue that we are never the real owners of our mind. If this argument is true, of which it is most likely to be, then there are real chances that you have been taking irrational decisions all these while irrespective of how rational they may appear.

'What is man?' Is a short story that appears like a dialogue between two persons, a younger man and an older person. The story intends to expose the nature of man in its psychological sense. It began with the old man trying to convince the young man that man is merely a machine, and nothing more. An argument which the young man objects.

To back his claim, the older man argued that even though metal ores are present in rocks, nothing worthwhile can be made out of them without further treatment. In his opinion, a product of the already treated ore has no personal merits as regard its performance than another product made from the raw ore for these are usually brittle and of little use. Thus, it is neither a personal demerit in the other product made from raw ore that it is capable of doing so little.

Now from here, one wonders how this relates to man. Well, our nature, including our bearings and dispositions, are no more different from what we just observe above. All man are the same, what differentiates us is the type of training or education we undergo. If we are to regard the grand difference between the two states of metal we had described above we will note that it is as as a result of the 'external' refinement that we applied to one while the other was bereft of it. The first state of the metal (raw ore) contained everything that the second (refined metal) contained but it contain lots of sulphur and other impurities as a result of its geologic state.

We will note as the Old Man expressed in his argument that it is neither within the power of the ore nor within its desire to do away with the impurities.

In other words, the ore is indifferent to the presence of impurities in it. And same is man as well.

Yes. Man the machine—man the impersonal engine. Whatsoever a man is, is due to his make, and to the influences brought to bear upon it by his heredities, his habitat, his associations. He is moved, directed, commanded, by exterior influences—solely. He originates nothing, not even a thought.

In otherwords, you are not the owner of your mind and thoughts.

True as it is, many of our actions and beliefs are as a result of factors even we are mostly oblivion to.
