There is a fundamental question of metaphysics that constantly questions us about what exists? Who is there? and for her there is a spontaneous, immediate natural response of the human spirit that says that things exist, the objects of the world and, among them, me. This immediate, natural and spontaneous response is contained within what is known in the philosophical world as Realism.

The concepts

One of the bases of realism are the concepts of things that exist. Thus the relationship in which we all find ourselves with those "real" things is an intelligibility relation, that is, it is a relation of knowledge. We go knowing those things of the world and to know them we are forming concepts, notions, that reproduce the essences of the things. In this context, when we have formed a concept of a thing, then we are already in a position to go around the world talking about that thing and all the things of which we handle a concept; and then we can formulate judgments where we affirm, through the respective concept, this is this or that thing.

Knowledge, then, reflects in the mind the very reality. Knowledge, for the realist, is that: reflection; and in this way between the thought of the one who knows and reality there is no discrepancy. The thought is true; and this means that between him and the object of thought there is a perfect adaptation. Truth is defined, in realism, by the adequacy between thought and thing.

Realistic dialectic

While the formation of concepts is the basis of the path traveled by realism in its advance through the "real world", it is no less true that in the formation of concepts errors can be succeeded, that is, bad concept trained
Thus the discussion between ill-formed concepts and better-formed concepts is constructing the discursive dialectic of the realistic metaphysical method. And in the historical succession that goes from Parmenides to Aristotle, one can illustrate a perfect example of that dialectic of concepts, in which one tries to reproduce the very articulation of reality.
