Soil Paintings by Talaandig Artists

in #philippines6 years ago (edited)

Hello again STEEMIANS!

@theseamaster here.. I was able to  have a break from work this afternoon and thought of  dropping by the newly renovated Capitol University Art Gallery.  Last year around July, while the gallery was renovated, a fire incident occured and luckily the fire was under control after 30 minutes. But the sad thing is, it took the lives of 2 men who were working at that time.

After repairs, it was back in business with an Art Exhibit...."Soil Paintings by Talaandig Artists"

At first, i was wondering if  there is such a thing as soil painting! Well, i've seen soils with colors. In Hinatuan, Surigao, the soil there is somewhat reddish. There you are! Red, brown and gray.. Instead of using the usual coloring materials, this talented artists use  soil instead.

Now let's talk about the Talaandig Artists... The Talaandig's are one of the existing seven indigenous tribes from the Kitanglad mountain ranges in Bukidnon, Mindanao . They are very creative and resourceful people.

This people are promoting internationaly a dying art... Soil Painting! According to a famous Talaandig painter, Waway Saway, Bukidnon is the home of the original and authentic soil paintings.. He is presently promoting Bukidnon as the Soil Painting Capital of the World. Wow!

Most of their paintings reflect their practices, beliefs ,way of living, and respect of nature. Good for this guys, they respect mother earth..

Here are some of the photos taken during my visit at the gallery.
