Blockchain and the Law Series - Part 1 (Color) v3.jpg

Manila Ethereum will hold a lecture series to discuss the legal, regulatory and policy implications of open blockchain networks and the various use cases, activities and applications that are built on top of Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT).

For the first part of the series, a lecture will be presented on the convergence of two modes of regulation: 1) law and 2) architecture, the latter in the context of blockchains.

Manila Ethereum will hold a lecture series to discuss the legal, regulatory and policy implications of open blockchain networks and the various use cases, activities and applications that are built on top of Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT).

This lecture series is inspired by and will be a tribute to the seminal work of Primavera De Filippi and Aaron Wright who co-authored the book "Blockchain and the Law: The Rule of Code (2018).

Lex Cryptographica will be a recurring theme on the series as we juxtapose the concept relative to the developing area of the law on the subject of blockchains. In particular, we will explore the ramifications of the technology on financial regulations, securities law, consumer law, tax, privacy and competition laws.

For the first part of the series, a lecture will be presented on the convergence of two modes of regulation: 1) law and 2) architecture, the latter in the context of blockchains.

ABSTRACT: To the extent that legal frameworks should be factored in designing blockchain networks, smart contracts and decentralized applications, the law should mutually appreciate the immense power of blockchain technology, understand how it can be fully harnessed, and ensure that realistic, sensible and enforceable regulations are developed.

Many thanks to Cerebro Labs (https://www.cerebrolabs.io/) for sponsoring the venue for this lecture.

IMPORTANT ADVISORY:
The Blockchain and the Law Series will differ significantly from our usual meetup format. The focus of the event will be to educate our community on the legal aspects of blockchains. Unless you are interested on this special area and will actively participate in the conversations, we advise you to skip the lecture series.
