Let's discuss the various business cases as well as the opportunities for entrepreneurs who have the vision and the ability to harness the power of blockchain technology.

According to William Mougayar, author of the book "Business Blockchain", blockchain has both technical and business definitions.

From a business aspect, blockchain is "an exchange network for
moving transactions, value, assets between peers, without the
assistance of intermediaries." (Mougayar, 2016) Blockchains and other Distributed Ledger platforms (DLT) are the evolutionary and logical next phase of the internet technology currently embodied by the World Wide Web - a technology that will continue to massively influence the world, society and even business at exponential scale.

Among many things, one key innovation ushered by blockchain platforms is the development of novel scripting languages that can program business logic as smart contracts that are automatically enforced on the blockchain. Its implications are envisioned to lead to the creation of new business models that would incorporate some aspects of decentralization in certain systems and processes.

The good news for entrepreneurs is that it is not absolutely necessary
to understand how blockchains operate on a technical level. As long as there is confidence on the security and reliability of the preferred network or platform, a business user can leverage blockchain and implement new ways of delivering products and services. "The blockchain will redefine the role of existing intermediaries while creating new intermediaries, therefore it will disrupt the traditional boundaries of value." (Mougayar, 2016)
