Are You A Salad Person?
Are you a salad person? I like salads, but I'm not big on variety when it comes to them. For instance, my wife likes a little bit of about half the things on a salad bar. I don't do that. For me, it's simplicity.
I like the lettuce with Thousand Island dressing on top. A lot, but not too much of that dressing. I'm not talking the low calorie or non-fat one either, although I should be using those. I like the full-fledged, high-calorie version. On top of the dressing, I like to put a little grated cheese and some bacon bits. If they do not have bacon bits or if I'm in a different mood, I can use sunflower seeds instead. I use a medium portion of bacon bits, but a large portion of sunflower seeds. Sometimes I use both, but in medium to light amounts. If they don't have either, well that's okay too. I can do without. Add a fair amount of black pepper to it and it's complete.
Other than that, there is nothing else I normally put on my salad. I don't get all the other stuff on the salad bar usually. Every once in a while, I will get something that's different, like putting jalapenos on my salad or if they have dill pickles or celery sticks, I will get 1 or 2 of them. Croutons and cucumbers are okay sometimes too.
Tomatoes and onions? I like them both, but not on my salad. If I order a salad on the menu and it comes with tomatoes and onions, I'll eat it though. Sometimes I give the onions to my wife, she loves them raw, but not so much cooked. I like them either way.
Now if I order a salad off the menu, then I get a different kind of thing. I like to order the chicken salads, steak salads and even the Chef salads. I don't eat the boiled eggs though. I will eat what I order 99% of the time. It's only on the salad bar, where I have a choice, is where I get the minimum of what I like.
Most fruit and potato salads I like, but I never get those from a salad bar. They have it, but I just do not get them. I prefer eating the ones that my wife makes. I guess after over 37 1/2 years of marriage, I'm pretty used to the way she makes things. Maybe because she makes them the way I say I like it.
I live in a part of the Philippines that doesn't have salad bars as I'm used to, but I think they are getting there. They do not really eat salads here, at least my Filipino relatives are not big on them. It's mostly pork, fish and rice with them. They are not much into vegetables, especially the kids. Again, the ones I know are the only ones I can say for. They do know 1000 Island dressing though, so all hope is not lost. Maybe someday things will change.
So, are you as salad person? How do you like your salads? Do you think that maybe I just have not tried the right kind of salad yet?

You have very healthy habit. Everyone should use healthy food and of course when there is talk about healthy food, salad can really make a difference. I like to use salad with some olive oil on top which give it some perfection.
I like super simple salads. Lettuce, cheese, and ranch dressing...maybe some carrots. My husband takes an hour to make a salad. He makes bacon and puts croutons and all kinds of stuff in it. The only complex salad I like is from a restaurant that puts fried chicken strips in theirs with house made ranch dressing. It's really good.
I like that Fried Chicken strip salad too. I could eat it with Ranch if I had to, but I'd prefer my 1000 Island. Even the broil chicken or steak strips are good.
I love fruits and veggies but I can't call myself a salad person.
I love cucumber with a bit of salt and vinegar.
I like cucumber/carrots dip in mixed catsup & mayonnaise.
I like coleslaw and taco salad (with scorpio cabbage).
Lettuce is not available in the "mountain" where I live. 😊
