From Student Permit to Driver's license (Non-Professional)

Hi, Steemians! Previously, I wrote about on how to obtain Student Permit. Now, we're gonna talk about how to obtain a Non-Professional Driver's License.

Non-Professional Driver's license holder are the people who drives private vehicle.

First of all, what are the qualifications?

  • At least eighteen (18) years old
  • Physically and mentally fit;
  • Able to read and write Filipino, English;
  • A valid SP holder for at least thirty (30) days prior to the application; and

Kindly, comply all the qualification to avoid being denied.

There are four kinds of application for NP Driver's License:

  • New Application/Conversion
  • Renewal
  • Additional Restriction Codes (RC)
  • Revision of records/change classification

We're gonna focus on New Application as you only have Student Permit.

Requirements

  • Duly Accomplished Application for Driver's License (ADL);
  • Valid Student Permit issued at least thirty (30) days;
  • Medical Certificate with official receipt (OR) from any duly-licensed and practicing physician (Note: The LTO will not accept medical certificates which are over 15 days old.); and
  • Passed the written and practical examinations.
if you fail the written and practical examinations twice, you will not be allowed to apply for the same within a period of 1 year.
  • In addition, for foreigners, original and photocopy of passport with entry of at least one (1) month and visa duration of at least one (1) year from date of application, or if born in the Philippines, present original and photocopy of birth certificate duly authenticated by the NSO.
  • In the event that the applicant is a holder of a valid Foreign Driver's License, the applicant may present the original and photocopy of Foreign Driver's License, if not in English language, original and photocopy of official English translation from Embassy of the issuing country instead of an SP.

Procedures

Step 1
Go to the customer service counter to get ADL, checklist of requirements and a queue number.

Step 2
When your number is called, go to the evaluator's counter and submit all the documents to have it checked for completeness.

Step 3
You will be called for a photo and signature taking.

Step 4
Go to the cashier to pay for the necessary fees.

Step 5
The Examination, you will be directed to the lecture and written exam room.

After passing the written exam, next is the practical exam where your name will be called.

Step 6
After passing the practical exam, you will be called again to the cashier for payment of necessary fees and obtain an official receipt (OR).

Step 7
Wait for your name to be called in the releasing counter and present the OR and claim the your Driver's License.

Venue

Any LTO licensing office and District/Extension office.

Tips

  • Bring a bottle of water and snack or biscuit, as this transaction takes a lot of time.
  • Arrive as early as you can because people peak at the afternoon.
