Learning Pangasinan Series #4: The Real Pangasinan Day / Sual / Vocabulary Lessons

in #philippines7 years ago (edited)

The "Learning Pangasinan Series" continues, and I am now at the fourth part. This time, I would be talking about Pangasinan Day. I am actually talking about the real one.

Today is November 13, and it was a holiday. Our province originally celebrates November 13 as the "Pangasinan Day". Looking back when I was younger, we have no classes every 13th of November, and that date was stuck on my mind as "Pangasinan Day". However, a few years ago, the real "Pangasinan Day" was changed to April 5 which trips back to the founding of the province during Spanish times more than four centuries ago. The date "November 13" was thus declared as a holiday in the province tp commemorate the date of birth of one of the popular key people in Pangasinan, Eugenio Perez, a former Speaker of the House of Representative several decades ago.

It was now clear for us, Pangasinenses, that November 13 is not Pangasinan Day, rather April 5.

Sual is one of the richest town in Pangasinan when it comes to revenue because of the NGCP Power Plant located there. It is a coastal, and mountainous town in between of Alaminos and Labrador. You might want to visit the beautiful beach there.

I had been to Sual few years ago, I think that's where "The Hundred Islands" are located.

Glad to know you have been to "The Hundred Islands"! Actually, it is in Alaminos City, which is next to Sual. :)

Hahaha I guess I was lied too. I would not forget Sual but thanks for clarifying otherwise I would continue to believe that misinformation. Yes, we spent some time on one island that has a big figure of a mermaid. Not sure if they call it Quezon island

I think that's Quezon Island! I even posted a blog about my trip in Hundred Islands. I would be featuring it next time in this series.

Are you going to write about the story of Urduja?

I will try to write about it. Glad to know you know about it.

Been to Pangasinan once but in Alaminos.

That's where Hundred Islands is. ☺
