It was 1999, when he explored the mainstream music world and released his first mainstream album. He already released an album before "The Slim Shady LP", though, the said album was his first mainstream album and was released globally. That era was when pop music is dominating the music industry, which pop stars debuted the same period with global superstars Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Jennifer Lopez. Those pop stars had their ups and downs in their careers, but Eminem maintained his success and peaking at number 1 every album he releases as the new millennium started.

What made Eminem special from other rapper or even other recording artists around? Here are some of the lists which made Eminem the "Rap King" and why he remained successful after all these years:

  1. He is a white rapper.
This is not about the race. The media even called him the "white rapper". The point is rap music has been dominated by blacks. Some white rappers emerged but never on par with what Eminem achieved.

  2. He is once a king of controversy.
Starting from "The Slim Shady LP" up to his 2000s releases, Mr. Slim has been stuck in many controversies because of his song's lyrics, which are usually associated with violence, homophobic, swearing, and even misogyny. Some of his songs are even political, and thrown shades at fellow recording artists. The first half of 2000s, Eminem has been at the extreme for lambasting people in his songs.

  3. He evolved, but not entirely
As we heard the themes of his songs, they evolved at the second half of 2000s. He made a change on his musical themes but he never lost his identity.

  4. He speak his mind
Eminem has been true to himself. He speaks his mind. He doesn't care if makes it to the top or not. All those controversial songs before, I don't think were for publicity.

  5. He had his humble beginnings
Eminem had humble beginnings. He is not rich. He had lots of struggles before reaching superstardom. He is even helpful to other rappers.

  6. He loves his child dearly
Many people witnessed his love for his child, Hailie. He mentioned him on a lot of his songs. He even wrote songs like "Hailie Song" and "Mockingbird" for his daughter. Eminem might be harsh with his song, but he's undeniably and good and loving father.

Are you a fan of Eminem? What's your favorite song from him?

sorry my friend i dont know about him.

Isn't he popular there?

I'm not really a fan but there is one song he did with another female singer, maybe Rhianna that I like.

He actually did 3 songs with Rihanna, and two of them were released. "I Love the Way You Lie" and "The Monster".

I read his life story and made me cry a bit. I like some of his songs and yeah, I am a fan :)

Actually, his movie "8 Mile" was based and inspired by his life story.

Eminem is my favourite artist.
