Travel with a Purpose

in #philippines7 years ago

Do you enjoy travelling? Why? Because you can see beautiful places that can relieve your stress, to gain new experiences, to relax and sometimes to make new friends. Those are some of the reasons why we travel but what if we give more meaning to our travel? How? Let's travel to help other people who are in needy.

I and some of my friends volunteered to make the kids happy and help the people in Mountain Province Banaue, Ifugao. This place is known for their beautiful Banaue Rice Teracces. It's a 2,000-year-old terraces that were carved into the mountains of Ifugao in the Philippines by ancestors of the indigenous people. It's also called the "Eighth Wonder of the World".

To make some meaning to our travel, we decided to bring them food, water and some gifts like slippers, rain coat, etc. After a long ride, approximately 7 hours and 30 minutes from Manila to our destination, at last we arrived. We're so excited to go to them.

But to meet them, we need to go for a long and tiring walk. We need to go down using dangerous stairs. Going down in this stairs is really difficult and think if you're going up.

After the challenges we had been through, finally, we can fulfill our purpose of travelling in that place. We played games, ate and laugh together. We also met new friends and really had a great fun.

Yes, it's a long and tiring travel but we're happy that it has a purpose and became meaningful. For many challenges we had been through, it's nothing compare to what we saw. Nothing can compare to a beautiful place especially the smile of kids.

I'd like to travel more within the Philippines, but being a big, white foreigner, I get lots of attention in my direction. Mostly good attention, but some bad.
