Homemade Pet Nebulizer Chamber
This is Brownie. He's 10 and he has asthma. For the past few years he's received steroid shots every few months, which helped elevate his symptoms of coughing, sneezing and wheezing. Over the past couple years the shot has become much less effective and he's become more prone to attacks. At his last visit for a shot Dr. Nate sent us home with a little face mask and prescribed a rescue inhaler in case of emergency.
I did some research on the treatment of cats with asthma and found a few videos of cats being given treatments with inhalers and a couple videos of cat's using homemade nebulizing chambers. I thought Brownie would do well in a chamber and hopefully regular treatments would help to avoid an emergency situation. After consulting with Dr. Nate about this type of treatment he agreed it was worth a shot so wrote a prescription for Albuterol. I purchased the gently used nebulizer for $20 and the tote was just under $10. A small hole was cut for inserting the mouthpiece of the nebulizer. I threw in a yard or so of soft fake fur for comfort and it was ready for use.
He had his first treatment today. It went very well. He was very content to just sit in his clear chamber. Time will tell the effect it has on his breathing.
Great idea! Hope Brownie feels better!
Thank you! He's been resting easy with no hacks so far. I'll slowly increase his time in the chamber up to about 15 minutes or so. Baby steps.
