Teddy Today: second Accupuncture session

A single, solitary peep was heard from this little kitty today. He was quiet all the way to the vet and all the way home. He only peeped when we opened the carrier on the vet's table.
He wasn't very impressed with me when I started messing with the carrier at home. He new what was coming but hoped that he was wrong. Sort of hiding away but not fully committing to hiding. He was furious at me though, refusing to acknowledge me for the whole trip.

He took today's treatment very well. I think at final count he had 12 needles today. He mostly just hid his face in Lynton's arm for the duration of the session. IMG_3015.JPG

He looked up eventually to look at the cars going past the window.

And promptly hid it again when the shot came out. This time he got an anti inflammatory that is specifically aimed at relieveing nerve pain IMG_3021.JPG

The vet is happy with his progress. His foot is healing up well and he hasn't had another spasm in a while.
We'll do another session next week Thursday and then stretch out the treatments to a maintenance dose.

We might try a magnet pad to see if that helps with the circulation. The thing is a cat could either love it or hate it. She did ask me if she should get me one today and I said no, I think Teddy is coping okay, but I was very out of it today. I also forgot to ask her about continuing on the Medrol with the injection that she gave him. Will phone her tomorrow and check in.

Has anyone here had experience with a pet and a magnet pad? I'm interested to know what your results were.

Thanks for following the Story of Teddy
Hope you have a great day!

Shame man upset with mommy it’s amazing how they know somethings up hey like with the cage so smart. I’m glad the vet happy with his progress. How is he doing today?

He's doing okay. He's still quite stiff and sleepy but the vet said that he would be for a while still.
Flash just earned himself a bath after jumping the wall and fighting with the neighbors cat.

Good news. Glad Teddy is taking his treatment in stride/

A very stiff stride this morning 😊 He'll get a bit more loose as the day goes on. They're usually stiff for 2 days after treatment.

Accupuncture on cats? i have heard it for the first time. And as far as i know, accupuncture is pseudoscience...

Acupuncture stimulates muscles and nerves to increase blood flow to the area. It's basically controlled damaging / stimulating of a nerve pathway which gets the body to wake up and start fixing things. It's made a big difference to Teddy with his spine injury. I can feel the muscle knots where the pins were in his legs for example. The vet uses a laser on the spots that he doesn't tolerate the needles at this stage. Acupuncture therapy is used more on horses and dogs, for example Dactshunds with slipped disks. In Teddy's case, his spine injury has led to muscle weakness and nerve pain which causes spasms. It's not the kind of thing you can massage to get better, and although he can be on lifelong anti-inflammatories it won't address the muscle weakness and the Meds ultimately shorten his lifespan. He has been for physio and we do try to keep up with his exercises but sometimes he manages to hurt himself in a way that only very small, specific spot treatments can help. And thats where acupuncture comes in. It's not something that can be fixed 100%. I don't expect him to ever be able to jump over a wall like Flash can. But we can strengthen him and make sure he isn't in pain.

The group of words associated with cat (catt, cath, chat, katze) stem from the Latin catus, meaning domestic cat, as opposed to feles, or wild cat.

The cat's front paw has 5 toes, but the back paws have 4. Some cats are born with as many as 7 front toes and extra back toes (polydactl).

Aww poor little guy. He is a beautiful kitty and I hope he gets to feeling better.

Thank you 😺 he's quite stiff today, walking around like a little robot.
