A particularly gruesome case (WARNING: GRAPHIC)
As the title suggests these are some particularly disturbing pictures. It is not my intention to gross anyone out or use shock and awe tactics. There are no tactics here, I'm just showing a rather extreme case and attempting to show the various cases of neglect and how it impacts these poor animals.
This poor pub was discovered when someone was petting him and noticed that when they took their hand away from his lower back that there was actually a maggot that had come away on his hand. They withdrew their hand in horror but then took a closer look to find out that this friendly little fella, who was wondering around being pleasant actually had a hole in his back that was infested with maggots that will eventually kill him.

This ended up being a rather complicated procedure because we didn't want to have cut him open further to clean out the damage the parasites had already made. It is a rather common occurrence with homeless dogs. They suffer an injury that they can not clean themselves because they can't reach it, and then the heat and flies of the are find a way in.
The thing about this little trooper is that he didn't even seem to be aware that there was a colony of bugs living inside of an open wound on his back. I'm not trying to make anyone nauseous but this is even disturbing to us and we see animal injuries on a regular basis.
The good news is that he has been very well-behaved and friendly during his time with us and the procedure was a success. We expect him to make a full recovery from an injury it seems as though he wasn't even aware he had. The resilience of these animals is just amazing. Since we can not take on any more boarders, he will re reintroduced to the spot we found him in a few days time.
