Adopt Dogs And Give Them A Better Home
Recently, we moved near the beach. And we loved walking along the shore every morning and afternoon with Sam and Sofia (our dogs). This place is so serene that it’s rare that you’ll see other people at the beach. Though, we’ve noticed that there are a lot of Aspins (filipino dogs) roaming around.
Most of the dogs look unhealthy and sickly (the usual condition for local dogs here in my country). And most are severely infested with fleas.
I was thinking that time that the owners of the dogs are such irresponsible people that they just let their dogs suffer like that.
Then, after a week, I’ve noticed these 4 dogs. They sleep every night at the beach near our fence. And it seems like they have no proper home. They just walk around the shore, scavenging food and fighting over it when they found a bit.
So, I started giving them some of our leftovers from lunch and dinner and let them in our home at night. Then, they would go in the morning and just roam around the beach again.
I kept doing this for a few days. After just 3 days, these 4 dogs stayed all day inside our home and never want to leave again. And so, I thought of just adopting them since it seems that nobody would ever claim them.
This is Bonnie (she's too bony). She's the most malnourished dog among the four.
This one, we called him Grouch. He looks really old and grouchy.
This is Moody. He always has mood swings.
And this is Smiler. She smiles with her teeth out. We were frightened of her at first, but, we eventually got it. She lets her teeth out when she's happy.
We continued to take care of them. We have them checked by the vet, 2 of them are severely dehydrated, and all are malnourished. The vet gave us some vitamins and electrolytes to hopefully get their health back in shape in no time.
Then, we bathe them and gave them treatments for their flea infestation. And bought them proper dog food. Now, we have a big sack of dog food (more on our monthly budget, haha).
I’m just so happy that my BritGuy is really supportive of this. He loves animals too. And like me, he can’t bear to see them suffering. It’s really nice that he is more than willing to share what we can to save these unfortunate dogs.
And we will try to take in more stray dogs. So, my Britguy, work more! We’ve got a lot of dogs to feed! :p
This our shout out to everyone, please adopt some stray animals as much as you can and give them a better home because no one deserves to be homeless. And also, let’s all fight against the killing of these animals in dog pounds, they are the most loyal companion that you can ever have and they deserve to enjoy life.
I would love to hear what you think!
I’ll definitely appreciate and respond to all your comments.
Thanks! 😉
Such a noble thing you two do! And to do it properly, vets and all! My neighbor does the same thing, their family adopts syray cats. They have about 15 now. If you have the time I think you're prime candidates to start an organization focusing on animal welfare ^_^
We are hoping we can do that animal welfare org soon. The local government here just started getting the dogs out from the streets, using a POLE! It's really rude and inhumane. I'm thinking of writing about that here at Steemit and forward it to PAWS to start a protest.
Love it! We've taken in and found homes for 4 dogs now. If you include the dog we have as our own, Belmont, 5!
That is great @improv! Let's continue to give them a better home. It's just sad here co'z recently, the local government here started getting stray dogs out of the streets by force. They use poles and ropes to catch them. And I've heard that they are killing them since the dogs are considered homeless and might pose a threat to the public while they roam around. And I definitely don't agree with that!
That's awful!
Lovely souls! I want to have but for now... I don’t think I can be a responsible owner, I can’t take care of them like how you do it. Keep it up kabayan!
Thanks @monkeupattycake! I totally agree with you, it's hard to have pets. You need to invest time, money and tremendous space to accommodate them all. We're just lucky that we have enough backyard space to fill. Or maybe, eventually, we might sleep with the dogs on the floor when there's too much of them around. lol
The dogs are very fortunate. You and your guy have such big hearts. I'd love to adopt (we've had dogs given to us before by family friends) but the place I live at now isn't the best place for keeping a lot of pets. We do have a small dog (my sister's) but she couldn't take it with her when she moved out. Anyway, I wish you the best :) I hope the dogs recover fast!
Taking your sister's dog in is already an act of kindness to these vulnerable animals. I'm glad you have what it takes to care for that dog. Having a pet is no joke! :)
Yeah. It's like having a tiny boss. And the vet got angry the last time because it gained more weight (we're told to drop it to under or 3 kilos but it's now at 4 :| - blood tests and all are normal) and we already weigh its dog food and schedule meals. We also take it for walks and play with it but it's just not losing weight lol. Probably need to change the dog food or give strict instructions to anyone to not give any doggy treat.
My friend's dog is the same. she's obese! Then, they tried raw. Raw lean beef. And just feed their dog 1x a day. It turned out well. But consult this first to your vet if you want to try it.
